Birthday Gift No.1 - Wisdom (aka The Download)
Last month I had a miscarriage. I was 11 weeks when I went to the emergency room and was told the fetal heartbeat could not be detected. The doctors believed the heart beat stopped at 8 weeks, based on the sonogram measurements. The term for this scenario was a “missed miscarriage”.
When I went to the emergency room, I had not passed any tissued yet, only as much blood as a normal period. Â Since the complete miscarriage could take up to 2 weeks, I was advised to go home and rest. In all my naturalness I wanted to miscarry at home and heal in peace with my family and without interventions. My husband and I are advocates for healthy living and spiritual well being. We delivered our son at home in an unassisted birth without complications. Â Based on our past experience, it did not occur to me that I might need medical attention.
I started to pass the pregnancy tissue the next evening. This went on throughout the night. By the time I had passed several clots, I knew something was wrong. I could barely stand. I felt like I was in labor, however, whenever I was not laying down, my head pounded, my vision blurred and my heart rushed. I fainted, so I assumed I had lost a significant amount of blood.

At the doctors office, I was given fluids until my blood tests were returned. When the result came, my doctor told me my hemoglobin levels had dropped to 5.5 and I needed a blood transfusion.
The clinic, the hospitals, the blur of needles and tests settled in moment of deep humility as I stared at the 2 pints of O- than would be channeled into my veins. Regardless of the donor’s virtue, vice, gender, culture, etc….I was thankful. I prayed there was enough of a connection between us to allow their blood to restore me.
I was in the hospital for two days after the transfusion. I was in a room alone. My phone was dead, no charger. The tv was not programmed correctly. My husband was at work. My two youngest children were being cared for while I rested. No distractions. Time for that real self-reflection.
First I sat quietly….meditated.
I am not my legs, I am not my breasts
I am not this blood, I am not this breath
I am not my body, even at its best
What’s giving my life, even when I’m taking rest?
I am more, I am more
spirits calling for me to explore
I am more
So much to see, so much to be
So many reflections in these mirrors of me
I am more, my love
I amore
And spirit without fail dropped a few keys….
I grew up in the 80’s so I remember a time before internet, cell phones and even call waiting. The stage of social technology and societies’ dependency on it, was more balanced.  It was necessary for people to plan, pay attention, be patient, memorize and use intuition. Problem solving skills related to the necessities of life was a part of our everyday routine.
Silence is essential now because we are immersed in distractions. Media is designed to capture our attention. It has become so invasive that “art” mediums are being misused to program our memories instead of inspiring authentic reflection and evolving our feelings and thoughts.
Silence is like a mental and spiritual fast. It allows us to identify and flush out the habitual patterns of thinking that have become toxic. Quiet time provides the space to reconnect with our inner voice. The part of us that is connected to a source that is infinitely wise, loving and patient. Many of the answers to our most pressing questions are revealed easily when our mind is still. If you have learned to dislike the silence you should ask yourself, “Why?”. “What am I running from?”
2. Reprioritize your priorities
Your character is most important. Â When we are immersed in the daily life/work patterns we start to believe that the tasks and titles we hold are paramount. The truth is most of what we do is not that serious. We can be replaced at our jobs. Other people have similar titles and degrees.
What requires more attention is the development of our character. The relationships that we have with others in the world and the spiritual spheres. Are you patient and kind? Are you optimistic? Do you complain or are you a problem solver? Do you keep your word to yourself and others? Do you procrastinate? Do you show appreciate of others’ time and efforts?  Do you honor your dreams and support others aspirations? Are you honest and authentic?
Prioritize your virtues and all other successes are destined to follow.
3. Being who you want to be is not that difficult
Many of us admire our dreams from afar. We thinks that it takes some special skill or circumstance to begin the process of realizing our goals. This is not true. To begin just takes a choice. Once we decide to walk on the path, the necessary pieces will unfold.
If you want to be a writer, write. Throughout the writing process you will learn to be better. You will attract situations that will challenge your current abilities. Overtime you will accumulate projects that reflect your experience and growing talent. Yes, some goals require greater effort. However, if you are honest and your dreams stem from an authentic passion, what is there to stop you from focusing on the necessary steps to fulfill your purpose?
4. If you leave now, life will go on
You are special, you are valued, you are loved. However, life will go on tomorrow if you transitioned today, because it must. Don’t wait until to you are dead to take time for yourself.
When emergencies happen we realize how easy it is to stop time and leave everything until the crisis has passed. Â Realize that a life out of purpose is a crisis. Your peace, spiritual connection, innovative ideas and authentic expression is necessary for all energies that cross your path.
Schedule time for your personal development as you would any other appointment. We should all be aware of our physical, physiological and spiritual needs. We should know what feeds us emotionally, heals us physically and inspires us to action.
5. We are responsible for ourselves
When you feel someone has done you wrong, or the universe has placed you in a negative, unfair situation, ask yourself, “What did I do to contribute to this reality?” or “What can I do to alter this reality?”
Sometimes, it’s hard to accept that we are not victims in our circumstances. I know, there are a million, “but what ifs….” Trust that for every exception, there is an exceptional person who has overcome that scenario.
Taking the approach of self accountability is an empowering choice. Reflecting on how we fostered a situation, sets us on the path to making constructive changes in our life. What habits, character traits, choices, association are no longer serving you? What patterns of behavior, continue to draw you into uncomfortable situations. The universe in all its order is slowing you down and creating opportunities for you to reflect and get back on path. Be grateful.
6. Show up for your dreams
Imagine your in a forest in the dark. You don't know the exact way out, but you know you are okay. You can sense the right direction. In your mind you see a house with the light on in the front porch. In the house the people are kind and provide the things you need. They knew you were coming. There is a special room just for you. It has all the treasures, resources, and keys you require to realize the life you imagined.
But first, you must trust your intuition to make it through the forest. You must cross the road when you see the house in the distance. You must will yourself to walk across the yard even though you are tired. You must trust to knock on the door. Once you are in the house and you are safe and restored, you face the hardest part. You must know in your heart that you are worthy enough to turn the knob and open the door to the room that was made for you.
What if all that you desire is already destined for you? Even if everything was given to you, you still can choose to say I accept or decline. It seems odd that we would reject our greatest desires for ourselves and the ones we love. But we do this every time we don’t show up for our dreams. By this I mean, taking time to create occasions for those dreams to manifest. If you want to be a painter, but you never buy the tools, take the class, watch the youtube videos, designate the time and space to create, how can you bring your vision into manifestation?
Organize and prepare for your dreams as you would your regular job. Learn, stretch and challenge yourself in your area of interest. Why wouldn't you make progress in any field that you have put proper effort toward?
7. Don’t compromise your morals or boundaries
Immediately remove yourself from the company of people who don't value you or honor your value system. When someone shows you a repeated lack of concern for your well-being either consciously or unconsciously, move on in peace and love. Negative draining people will always deplete your light and energy. Moreover, their frequency will give fuel to the demons you are trying to overcome in yourself. Your time to work on you is limited. Focus on your personal development and helping those who want to grow.
