Thoughts on the ROTTMNT Movie Synopsis
… and I don’t know how much of this will make sense since I’m overtired and in the middle of what might become a 50hr work week unless I manage to give myself a break.
Synopsis focuses on Leo becoming a leader and leading his brothers (because that’s what leaders do). I really hope Mikey and Donnie don’t get shunted off to the side to focus on the whole leader Leo vs Raph plot/drama/whatever you call it because that would be lame.
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY: what do we know Nickelodeon isn’t great at?
Now, if I was a marketer (marketeer? musketeer?) at Nickelodeon, trying to market this film, I would probably notice the backlash the original marketing stuff got when Rise first came out (namely all those who went “Leo isn’t the leader? Blasphemy, waahhh!). No bueno, ja? Seemed to turn a lot of the TMNT fanbase off from giving the show a chance, yada, yada, we know this part. SO with the movie, what would I do but of course emphasize this point? “Yeah, Leo is the leader now and he is working on leading stuff” like, hey fans! Look! We’re not out of our minds!
BUT ALSO: I trust the Rise crew.
They pour so much devotion and love into what they work on, and DVE is so excited in her tweets that I think whatever they have cookin’ up over there is gonna be great and balanced and wholesome like a homecooked meal. Stuff for all the turtles because they KNOW their content and they do their content good (well?). Leo learning to lead may be a part of this big, beautiful picture, but perhaps not the end all be all of it. It may just be the part the marketers chose to focus on to win over the alienated fans.
So yeah, can’t wait for the movie. Can’t wait for all it entails. Can’t wait to learn about the (Krang? Kraang?) because literally, my experience with Krang growing up on 2003 is just Utroms with one cameo “shut up, Krang!” and the 2016 Bay film. Is Krang a singular Utrom? Is it ‘are they the Kraang’? Are ‘the Kraang’ evil Utroms? Idk anything, so I’m super pumped to be introduced!
