this is a very indulgent gushing post but GOD i still get so giddy whenever i remember how the first 3 paper mario games had such a consistent evolution of art styles; PM64 had a lovely children book illustration aesthetic, especially the artworks being drawn with pastel pencils - TTYD had a really great comic aesthetic with hints of pop art - and SPM went SO HARD on the digital, computer aesthetics. SO hard. like the first two games had these overall art style themes but SPM cranked it to a hundred where almost everything is stylized with digital art in mind - and varied too!! every world tries to have its own take on computer-made art, and this theme even drips into the UI and any random effect the game throws at you, through a LOT of use graphic functions, symmetry, etc. it is legitimately SO inspiring

something that i love about kingdom hearts is the function of Org XIII in the plot. They seem to have an infinite capacity for scheming and machinations, and their motivations are often left up to mystery until each game's climax as they encourage Sora to stay on course in his fight against the heartless, because it plays right into their hands.
