I want to be your lover
I woke up in a foreign land In a castle made of sand No one wants me, no one wants me I woke up with a broken hand In a castle made of sand Blunts and madness fill my lungs And I am on the floor When the darkness salts my tongue I’ll crawl back for more
- “Sandcastles” by Adam Jensen
Whenever I wanna make myself feel sad I like to imagine how Keith’s 18th birthday might have been the one and only time these two got drunk together and got all touchy-feely before Kerberos happened and everything went to shit. Of course they’d never admit they danced. Close. Very close.
(also Sandcastles is THE theme song for these two pining idiots xD)
I don’t write that much but I had a mighty need omg,, ;;;
The entire club is filled with a thick heat; Humidity, almost, thin enough to breathe through but thick enough to feel the moment you walk inside. The crowds are packed in. It’s just an option for closer contact, more touch. The gaps among the patrons are sparse and limited, but nobody seems to mind.
He can feel the bass of the music thrumming through the floor under his feet, steady and fast – much like his own heartbeat. The alcohol has apparently done little to slow him down. He had hoped, the more he drank, the less his heart would race in these situations. No such luck. Now he’s here, now he’s looking down at the man before him with thick, dark hair that just teases the nape of his neck – He can’t imagine his heart is going to slow anytime soon.
Keith’s birthday is today. They had gone out for a meal and then to this club they had heard good things about – It was rare they both gained the clearance to get off campus for the weekend, but Shiro wondered if perhaps Matt had some role in this – perhaps he had pestered his father on Shiro’s behalf.
Who knew? He didn’t. And, truly, he didn’t care right now.
All he can think of is how, even among the crowds of hundreds, Keith is the only person he has eyes for. And how, they both know all too well – This might be the last time they have the chance to act. For a while, at least. Their launch date is next month, preparations kicked off soon. They only had limited time.
Limited time – It’s those words that stick in Shiro’s mind, carving in deep – And it’s what spurs him to move forwards, his heart racing, to lay his hand on Keith’s shoulder and turn him. Keith is initially surprised, but as soon as he feels Shiro’s other arm snaking round his waist, and the hand on his shoulder raising to tuck a few stray locks behind his ear – He’s melting into the embrace. His own arms slip around Shiro’s waist and settle at his back, and Keith is the one to lean in and make the first contact. They both taste like alcohol, but neither care. Keith takes the lead, as he knows all to well by now that Shiro is the more cautious of the two. Keith doesn’t have time for caution. The kiss is slow, but strong, and he eventually moves a hand to drag his fingers up through Shiro’s buzzcut at the back of his head, before they part just enough that Keith can meet those dark eyes of his.
Even with alcohol clouding his gaze, even with the strobing lights making it hard to focus; He knows, above all, that this man will be the only one who ever has his heart. And he’s more than alright with that.
“I’m going to miss you,” Keith admits, hot breath tickling Shiro’s upper lip.
“I won’t be gone for long, Keith,” There’s a watery smile, but Keith can see the faint gleam of tears beginning to bead on Shiro’s dark lashline. “I’ll be home before you know it.”
The music changes pace, dies into something new, and the lights up front grow more intense as the live DJ takes place; It’s that change that makes Keith look up, and Shiro follows suit. Better that way, since Keith’s eyes are also beginning to well.
Shiro moves, then, draping himself around Keith from behind. Behind, so he doesn’t have to be seen to cry, and behind, so they can dance. Isn’t that what they came here for? To celebrate. He couldn’t ruin that for Keith. He couldn’t cry, and he shouldn’t cry – He’ll miss Keith to no end while he’s away, but he knows it isn’t permanent. A year, and he’ll return to Keith with new stories, new ideals; He can’t wait to share that with him.
As he snakes his arms around Keith’s waist and pulls him close, the other turns just enough that they can settle in together, like a jigsaw: A perfect fit, among the hundreds of others dancing in this club. He can see Keith’s beautiful, sloping features; He can also see a glimmer of tears there, and suddenly, he doesn’t feel so ashamed anymore. He just pulls him closer, and he lets his tears well – Keith is much the same. They move together, cry together. Keith leans up and speaks, only just audible over the music as his breath tickles his ear.
“I’ll be counting down the days, Takashi.”
Reblogging because this is a wonderful fic and I may be crying right now. Just a little bit… Not bawling my eyes out or anything. Haha. No… Never……… Ok I’m lying.
