But it's less wonderful when that same visceral, body-hijacking sense of fear kicks in in front of 20 folk-music fans at a Tuesday night open-mic. Palms sweat, hands shake, vision blurs, and the brain says RUN: it's stage fright. In this charming, tuneful little talk, Joe Kowan talks about how he conquered it.

I volunteered today for a indoor percussion and winter guard event at my son's school. The falling snow was beginning to stack up when I drove in this morning but nothing too concerning. Roger called my cell about noon to find out when I was finished; he was coming to get me. He also picked my son up from a friend's house. When we got home I slipped a little on the stairs. Roger said, "Yeah, I slipped earlier. That's when I decided it was slick and I needed to go get my peeps."
