How I'm feeling these days in the fandom (THIS IS A JOKE)
I've been thinking about this, because the past wind breaker chapters have me conflicted, but i realized its not the writing I have an issue with (and for things I want to be addressed, I trust the arc will get there eventually so I'm not really worried). What actually bothers me is the reception to them, and specifically to Suo. The way people generally talk about him has been happening since a long time, but I do wish since now the Suo arc is going on that the conversation around him would be more nuanced. But it's the same oh we have to kill him, he must suffer, I hope they beat him up, hes the root cause of all evil etc etc. No matter what happens each chapter these things stay the same for the most part. Even when some attempt to consider more of his perspective a disclaimer needs to be added that they're not excusing him for his actions. And that's just? He's a fictional character, this is a story, this arc is ongoing, but for some reason its like he needs to held accountable for his actions like a real person? All conflicts will be addressed in the story regardless, it's not like things won't have consequences. To add to, when it's talked about him getting beaten up it's usually not in the context of fights are conversations but rather that Suo needs to get beaten up as revenge and so that he suffers. It's so odd because we know in a story like wind breaker Suo will have reasons fot what he did and it will make us sympathetic so? I also want to touch on one last thing which is the idea that after everything is resolved Suo should somehow get the cold shoulder/be held at a distance and it rubs me the wrong way, because even when people make mistakes in the story afterwards they're treated with compassion and the sentiment that growth will happen and they'll build towards better relations. Why is Suo the exception to this, during this arc we'll see him suffer and conflicts will be addressed so why is he being punished in this way? This ties back into the idea of wanting to see him suffer as revenge. Lastly, I know mostly people joke, Suo is very loved, and the conversation will shift when we find out more about him BUT this has been happening continuously for months, and the difference is how Suo is talked about versus other characters (who also make mistakes!) Is so stark it's genuinely frustrating. I hope people can at least stop saying Suo are you ready to die after every chapter drop please I'm begging at this point.
Sakura, whose only reference for courting a crush is Endo: I bought you every dish at this Chinese restaurant.
Suo, who grew up food insecure and is ironically the only person who might be deeply moved by this gesture: *tearfully* Ok

I’ve noticed it and I think others have too but I am BEGGING all of you to stop using black and white thinking with this Suo arc like I’m on my knees begging.
We only know what the characters have told us about Red Chanpuru, and from what we’ve been told they’re a much older and strongly bonded organization with similar goals as Furin.
AND weve been told this by outsiders, people who have never experienced this organization personally who probably have heard misconceptions and rumors and so that’s the entirety of what they know! Most of them didn’t even know this organization existed!
I understand wanting angst and the easiest way to get that is through “Red Chanpuru bad and evil” but I NEEED you to think critically about that because this is the FIRST diverse group we’ve come across, PLEASE use your brain for 5 seconds and think about how harmful it is to say that the first group we have with diversity is abusing this teenager.
Now this doesn’t mean you can’t criticize them or talk about how Suo being connected to them is inappropriate. Suo is still a child and the fact that he has to go back and forth between this town on a 4 hour commute daily to a school he has then been made to drop out of (either by his own, or another persons decision) is wrong, but also we can’t even imply that he was forced to do it because WE DONT KNOW!
We can talk about how they probably have strict outdated rules without making them out to be an evil organization.
Things need to change, yes, but things also needed to change with Shishitoren and Noroshi and now they’re amazing allies which we don’t villainize because we heard them out!
I am just tired of people acting like this organization is evil and malicious when we know so little and to imply that Suo’s mask is something that was beat into him by Red Chanpuru when we don’t know that is just frustrating.
There are so many things that could have caused this response in Suo and I am BEGGING you to keep in mind that we are talking about the first ethnically diverse community.
RIP Suo Hayato. You would've hated seeing all of Bankoku-Gai beefing during the World Cup.
sorry i kept you waiting, kinosaki!

Honestly I don’t get the fandom’s tendency to constantly punch down on Suo. Yeah boohoo he hurt your blorbos but Sakura needed to doubt the vague nature of his relationship with Suo and Nirei needed to realize that his will by itself isn’t enough to help someone. And besides, it was Nirei who said Suo too was suffering, and Sakura believed him…? Suo has no choice in this matter either. What he did was wrong, I’m not justifying his behavior at all but the vilification gets to a point. Especially in a manga where everyone and their mom gets into some sort of conflict and beaten up.
Yes I’m aware it’s all in jest and people know that Suo too is a victim of circumstance but even clowns need new joke material. Stop beating the horse when it’s in hospice
