recently i’ve been asked why i do not archive aztec or general mexican related terms.
firstly, id like to say that blood connection, no matter the percentage is not what makes one indigenous. indigenity is a complex sociopolitical identity, especially in places with complex colonial history.
in mexico, indigenity is often contested, many claiming that all mexicans are indigenous, or that all descendants of aztec or mexica people are inherently indigenous. this is not necessarily true. mexica were one of several nahua ethnic groups, and a native peoples, but do not currently have one surviving ‘aztec’ or ‘mexica’ pueblo. living indigenous communities exist in mexico, and listening to those who are pueblo originarios is important to understanding indigenity in mexico. i in no way wish to speak over these people, but to support them and their fight for recognition and rights.
similar to north american natives having tribal nations, they have pueblos. of which people belong to, reconnect to, and celebrate.
i will continue to archive nahua and pueblo originarios terms and flags, but i will not be archiving anything labeled ‘aztec’ or general ‘mexican’.
Destiny “Sky” Pete, a high school student and member from the Duck Valley Indian Reservation, scientifically proved that traditional chokecherry pudding (toishabui), made with crushed pits, inhibits cancer cell growth. Her award-winning study, conducted with the help of Dr. Ken Cornell at Boise State University, found that the pudding killed uterine sarcoma cells within just 24 hours.
Sky noticed a link between her tribe’s health issues and the loss of traditional foods. Partnering with the Dr. Cornell, she found that only the traditional recipe, which includes crushing the chokecherry seeds, possessed the cancer-inhibiting properties.
Her project won the First Grand Prize at the Elko County Science Fair, beating over 440 other projects.
Sky’s research bridges traditional indigenous knowledge with modern science, demonstrating the health value of traditional diets. She plans to expand her research to other types of cancer, including breast cancer.
The concept of "AFAB Spaces" in general are such nonsense, by the way.
If anyone in the trans community still believes that:
1.) The "AFAB Experience/Body/Whatever is one cohesive experience that #bonds you together and makes you safe aroud each other,
and
2.) The "AMAB Experience/Body/Whatever is one cohesive experience that ~socializes~ predators and makes you unsafe around them,
Then you are blatantly transmisogynistic and intersexist.
"Well what if my space is just for people with vaginas and uteruses to talk about our reproductive issues-" assuming all people afab have vaginas and uteruses, and that no person amab has a vagina and uterus, is transmisogyny and intersexism.
"Well what if my space is for people who share the ayfab childhood experience-" I can guarantee there are very few things you as a person afab grew up experiencing that some brand of trans woman or intersex person amab could never experience.
"Well it's just that a lot of people have trauma around penises-" if you think all people amab have penises and that nobody afab has a penis you are just stupid.
If you believe in ~ayfab spaces~ and ~ayfab solidarity~ than you are dangerous. To transfeminine people, and to all brands of intersex people (even a lot of intersex people afab, because even they end up being excluded on the basis of their natural features, and when they are included are violently left out as soon as it's realized that a single word on their birth certificate doesn't in fact give you the perisex ~ayfab experience and/or body~)
Step one to intersex and transfeminine acceptance is realizing that a single past event (the gender someone was assigned at birth) says nothing about their experiences with socially imposed gender or what their body looks like. The second step is realizing that there's no type of ""socialization"" (terf talking point i cant believe the trans community uses in full seriousness) or body that makes someone inherently dangerous to you.
This Native American Heritage Month I want to spread awareness for MMIWG2S crisis, the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirits.
This post has facts, resources to learn more, and includes links with ways to help, although I hope as you read more you realize how much spreading awareness could leave a huge impact as it would create even more help, protections, and resources.
Did you know that indigenous women, girls, and two spirits are murdered and go missing at such high rates that both the USA and Canada have declared it a crisis and epidemic?
In some places they are murdered, assaulted, and go missing at 10x the national average?
The statistics that prove it in the USA:
The National Congress of American Indians - Defending Sovereignty since 1944
And Canada:
Read more on the Assembly of First Nations website here.
May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for MMIWG2S in the USA. In Canada it falls on the same day and it's referred to as Red Dress Day.
Red is a sacred color to indigenous peoples. As such is the color we use to raise awareness for our women, girls, and two spirits that have come under harm.
We use both red dresses and a red handprint over the mouth to raise awareness. So if you see these symbols please pay them their proper respect. They are not to be used in cosplay or costumes nor are they to be mocked or appropriated.
You'll also find the phrase "No more stolen sisters" in discussions about MMIW. This is a phrase specifically intended to raise awareness and bring attention to the MMIWG2S crisis and it shouldn't be applied to anyone except indigenous women, girls, and two spirits.
Origin of the movement Missing and Murdered Women and Girls, why wear red, current legal challenges and future hopes. (May 5, 2020)
For Native and Indigenous communities, 'No More Stolen Sisters' calls attention to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.
Along with all these facts I wanna ask you to look up infamous cases of MMIW. Look up Savanna Greywind and look up "Search the Landfill." And please check out this link that covers the legal "loophole" that allows tribal women to be assaulted without any hope for their non-native abusers being held accountable.
Let the horror that some native and first nations women go through fuel your desire to become an advocate for the MMIWG2S epidemic. Sit with us in solidarity and acknowledge the scope of the systemic injustices being done against us.
More reources on MMIWG2S, how the crisis is being handled by government, and how you can help:

Red Dress Day 2025, held every May 5th, is a National Day of remembrance and activism honouring the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous

List of resources from the Coalition to Stop Violence Against Natives Women that includes resources for women, LGBT and two spirit people, trafficking survivors, DV survivors, and of course resources specific to MMIWG2S.

"Canada, the most affluent of countries, operates on a depletion economy which leaves destruction in its wake. Your people are driven by a terrible sense of deficiency. When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money."

Hello friends, I am your friend Alaa, who lost her husband in the war. I gave birth to my daughter, Fatoum, without her ever seeing her father.
We are going through a very difficult humanitarian situation.
My campaign is extremely weak, and it is my only source of income for my daughter, Fatoum.
Fatoum is sick because of the cold weather and the lack of proper heating.
We are suffering greatly from all conditions. Our tent is very poor and not suitable for living.Everything here is hard to find. There is no source of income, no money, and my daughter is very ill.
Please help me.😭🙏🙏
This is a humanitarian case, and no matter how small your donation is, it will help me provide a dignified life for my daughter.
the co-founder of 'crips for esims for gaza' and disability advocate, alice wong, has died according to her twitter account.
alice's disability advocacy naturally led her to palestine solidarity as the quote from the blog post announcing 'crips for esims' illustrates:
We also recognize that everyone in Gaza is now disabled due to the massive number of deaths, new disabilities, life-threatening illnesses and destruction of medical facilities going on. Such destruction also debilitates the land, water, and air, which will impact Palestinians and all surrounding life for generations to come. We owe our kin in Palestine to throw sand on the gears of genocide with our every breath. [source: the disability visibility project]
since december 2023, crips for esims for gaza has raised well over $3.1M and bought and maintained over 5,000 esims, undoubtedly saving lives.
in the past few days there has been intense winter flooding in gaza. donate to honor alice wong's memory–to keep people connected, to give disabled people the tools to advocate for themselves, to refuse to let palestine be silenced.
Crips for eSims for Gaza is a collaboration between Jane Shi, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, and Alice Wong.

Just a little FYI, since I've seen a lot of stuff about Pretendians coming up.
Some Pretendian red flags:
● "I took a DNA test and it said--" DNA tests are often wrong. Beyond that it has to do with relationship to the tribe, not just blood quantum.
●"I'm part Native American and that doesn't bother me!" Normally people identify by their tribe specifically, not a very vague 'Native American'.
●"My (family) was a (tribe) princess." Many Americans have a family myth about being Indigenous. It often roots back to land disputes in early American colonization. Almost always, this isn't true. Most tribes didn't even have royalty in the European sense.
● Misuse of regalia. This one is most annoying to me personally. War bonnets at music festivals, dream catchers as decorations, breast plate bikinis, chin 'tribal' face paint, and so on. It's so rude and so often excused with "well I'm part native." Even if you are Native it's still rude.
● Offense at being asked questions. I don't know a single indigenous person who gets cagey when asked about themselves. People LOVE to talk. You let someone just keep talking, and you'll know all their distant cousins and those cousins cousins in no time. At the very least, your indigenous ancestors name and the tribe should be known if you're going to try to make a claim.
To be clear: I'm pretty darn white myself, and I'm a big advocate for when white Indigenous people are confronted with questions about their tribal status, they shouldn't be offended. There are people who fake it ALL the time for a lot of reasons. A community wanting to be safe isn't bad. If someone questions your status, just answer honestly. In the Muscogee tribe the normal introduction is "I'm (name) a member of (clan). my tribal town is (region). I come from (home region). My parents are (family).". It's very normal to know this stuff, or at least some of it.
—ㅤ A vesil (link) term for when Indigenous Identity / Indigeneity / being Indigenous affects many or all areas of one's identity. This term is exclusive to bodily Indigenous people.
—ㅤ The spelling of Indigevesil and Indigivesil can be used interchangeably, like Indigequeer and Indigiqueer!

“I didn’t know what xyz meant!!” why on earth would you repeat it then without looking it up first if you didn’t know the meaning. google is right there you can use it.
“How am I supposed to learn if you don’t educate me?” once again, Google is at your fingertips, use it for the love of god.
“Well I can’t find any sources on [this topic]” found four within a minute, you just want poc to do the labor for you.
“Being mean doesn’t mean you’re right!” “You’re just aggressive!” “Well if you don’t want to have an ~civil~ conversation..” “You’re overemotional” do y’all even hear yourselves. Like do you never stop to think that maybe, just maybe the shit you’re parroting sounds a little familiar?
