traffic so loud, and the air grown cold

in a soggy box, cardboard left in the rain

what hell had brought them to the side of the interstate?

tiny wings like arms bent backwards,

would they be rescued if you'd known the truth?

taken as kittens, you were all too assuming

until they grow into a form unfamiliar

but would you stand by the devils, like me?

when you see our scars and deformities?

if you knew the anomalies we hide away?

the fallen ones, wandered from our pedestals

when our wings show as flaws

I'd seen it all before,

I'd myself in their form

it felt like home to bring them here

and hope you wouldn't slip into fear
