I am completely out of options. I need $650 for rent or I’m gonna become homeless. I’ve tried to get a loan and ask friends but nothing is in my favour. Can anyone from here please help?

How to Make Your Art Look Nice: Thumbnailing

It’s here! For those artists who spend loads of time trying to figure out why their art is not coming out the way they want it to be, making thumbnails (or making studies) is the thing for you! It’s also great of getting rid of the habit of zooming in.

It’s not a contest to see who can get by without them. It’s not cheating to look at a thing in order to know what the thing looks like.

USING REFERENCES FOR ART IS NOT ‘CHEATING’!!!

If you can draw/paint without references, great!  But if you need to use them, and feel that your art can be bettered by using references, please, use them!  This is one of the biggest tips I can give to artists, is USE REFERENCES! 

Anyone who would dare to attack someone for using references after ‘recognizing a pose’ is a dipshit, who doesn’t know a thing about art.

You can even use other artists work, it’s just a matter of respecting the artist. Just be very careful and ASK (if you can) before posting any art you made that directly references an artists work. If you cannot contact them, let people know or link to the reference you used. Do not claim the work is your own or let people assume it by not saying anything at all-that’s where the call out culture is. Emulating master works was REQUIRED for half my undergrad classes in painting- and my original work was so much better because I studied someone with more experience and knowledge of the craft.

Unless you have a very good grasp on your subject matter trying to draw everything from memory is just going to hinder and frustrate you.

Study the masters.

Study real life.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

If you ever draw your characters in more sexy situations (or even if you just draw them coming out of the shower), you want to get the body parts right, but this is an area where anatomic references and tutorials are often lacking. If breasts are depicted, it’s often one size and one type, and let’s not even talk about all the Barbie and Ken style crotches.

Sex Positions for Boy’s Love Comics: As you may have guessed, that title’s translated from Japanese and this is a Yaoi reference, though it’s not too explicit.

Finding “couples getting intimate” references that aren’t too hardcore porny is kinda difficult. This tumblr, between-these–sheets, is a bit more tasteful and depicts more “romantic” encounters than your average porn tumblr. This tumblr is no more, I’ll try to find a replacement tumblr, or you can message me if you know of one.
