I think what might help the whole "low engagement in fandom spaces driving creatives out because they don't see the point in sharing anything only to get crickets or critics" is not the shaming tone of "look this is how you get nothing, you entitled shits" that tends to be very pervasive, but rather pointing out how actually rewarding it can be to leave nice comments.
I like to leave very long rambling comments on people's fics and that has actually netted me some very real, genuine friendships and we've become cheerleaders for each other. My friend has a D&D Podcast that she doesn't get ANY sort of engagement out of, so I started listening to it at work and livereacting the things I enjoy about it and showing her my investment and it makes her very happy and it makes me happy that she's happy.
Being nice to people... is actually a good enough reason to do things, shockingly enough. You don't have to do it. No one should shame you for not doing it. But it doesn't actually cost anything to make other people happy, especially if they created something that made you happy.
I commented on a community post by the creator of Prehistoric Emergence (an analog horror on YouTube) and they actually REPLIED! and it led to us sharing ideas and geeking out over their worldbuilding.
I used to hang out in the Tumblr rp community and before that, the LiveJournal/Dreamwidth RP spaces, and I've made so many friends either because people saw my rp threads or I saw theirs and comments were made.
I also made a comment on one of Jesse Cox's Scary Game Squad videos in their RE9 let's play, where I clarified the interior decoration type they'd been debating in the episode. It got a LOT of attention, more than my YT comments usually do, including from one of his mutual friends who stopped by to thank me for the injection of positivity.
yes, you might only see a handful of results out of hundreds of comments you make (if you're terminally online) -- but they're all well worth it.
engagement and silly comments and fun little notes on random websites in the backroads of the internet is what the internet was BUILT on.

the thing about mothers in fiction is that a lot of fandoms seem to be under the impression that the worst thing a woman can possibly do is be a bad mother. like they can forgive deadbeat dads easily but the moment a woman is a bad or even mediocre mother she's the devil incarnate to them. and then you're like "i like her and i think she's interesting" and they immediately go "oh so you think it's okay to be a bad mother (which is the most evil thing a woman can be)". and don't even get me started on how they react to female characters who are bad stepmothers
