Up till recently, I have finally learnt who I really am. Because before I was living a life everyone else thought was best for me, trying to live up to the expectations everyone had of me. I held myself back from opportunities that would have been great for me to grow and learn but you stopped me. I stopped living my dreams because you told me that’s what’s was best for me. Teachers and peers in school would say ‘you’ll never do good in life’ because I was never the smart one. I got told I was never going to get the grades to progress in life so everyone gave up one me quickly, trying to make me do the bare minimum so they can push me out of their life. Everyone in school would push me around, say ‘your fat’, ‘you’ll never get the grades!’ And then I came out as gay and they laughed in my face and I felt ashamed. I hid my true self away and tried to be someone else. So now, I quit being prisoner to the negative thoughts that I thought that would be useful to try and get me to be someone I’m not. I quit holding myself back and not being someone you would like to be. I’m not going to let societies expectations pressure me to be a size zero, to start a family and hide in the kitchen. This is who I really am: I left school with 7 GCSE’s, getting distinctions in college and I’ve got an unconditional offer at my dream university, so thank you to those who didn’t support me and made me realise I can do whatever I put my mind to. And thanks to the recent people who have entered my life, I’m coming out as non-binary and pansexual, because you should all know the real me. I’m surrounding myself with people who respect me, don’t want to change me, and help me get to where I need to be. Thank you for letting me be me. #thisisme #iquit #respect #me #lgbt
