Thor Ragnarok: The Funny One

They started “working” on it today - which most likely means round-table read thrus and the like. :) It sounds to me like he says Alison Sudol (x) –she was in Fantastic Beasts –  is playing Sebastian’s character’s wife, Tara Huffman. I love that the exec producer Sydney Sherman was the one filming the little interview. That was cool - he was feeding Travis names they were “allowed” to say are in the film. 

-so gay marriage is *more* acceptable, sure, and Chris is low-key openly bisexual (he’s dated girls and guys, but currently single, and his last relationship was a girl), but there’s still a bit of tension around that, given that it was a tough campaign and America’s a pretty divided place and he’s a brand-new congressperson and he’s already dealing with accusations of insider connections from his uncle

-and you have struggling actor/fashion model Seb (that last part’s a new addition after the recent pics, because WOW) (he makes money enough to not worry about getting evicted but not enough to, like, save anything or indulge his love for books or high fashion) (he allows himself Starbucks; that’s his one little self-treat) who also sort of has a mild crush on/appreciation for young bisexual brave congressman Evans, and so consequently has mild panic when sent out to the event

-and of course they come from COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WORLDS but there’s some sort of instant connection, like, Chris is getting nervous before his ‘thanks for coming, honored to be here’ speech, and the oh-god-so-beautiful waiter hands him a glass of champagne but then also smiles at him and maybe even gets him to laugh, distracts him, tells him a joke and gets him to relax, and the speech goes great…

-and they’re both kind of wistfully thinking, later that night, in bed, well, we’ll never see each other again, of course not, different orbits, but, oh god, his eyes and his smile and the way he really saw me, me and not my job, and…

-and so Chris is in New York for something, some fundraiser or meeting or whatever, and walks past a Starbucks, and stops dead in his tracks because that’s his gorgeous waiter picking up a holiday cup and opening the door and walking his way and oh fuck Chris you meatball say something, so he just kind of blurts out, “Thanks!” which is a very weird thing to say to a guy out of nowhere, a guy who probably caters hundreds of events and doesn’t even remember him–

-and Sebastian’s face just lights up

-and also there’s a whole thing with them trying to keep this relationship publicity-friendly and handle criticisms about how different they are

-which gets even worse when Seb starts being offered real acting/modeling jobs

-because a) he’s actually working and away from Chris and becoming successful, which is great, of course, but…does he not need Chris after all? of course he doesn’t, Chris’s brain says, you’re not a white knight rescuing him from poverty, you’re not his shining hero, he’s the hero who helped you and he doesn’t need you… and also b) concerns over people trying to influence Chris by giving Seb lucrative contracts, not based on his talent at all

[When discussing why Bucky was crucial to the Civil War conflict] “Steve would have to be invested, and there’s no greater investment than Bucky Barnes.”

[When discussing the shot where Steve had his shield up and Bucky was behind him holding a gun]  “Winter Soldier behind the shield. This is how we would’ve done it in 1944. Just a play on their friendship and the connection these guys have. They operate as a unit. There’s muscle memory. “

[When discussing the last fight between Steve, Bucky, and Tony] “The one time Steve Rogers knowingly witholds the truth is because his gut told him this would be the end result. Steve does have a willful blindspot for Bucky. ‘I don’t want to look at the fact that he probably did this’.] 

There’s also a few Bucky comments (esp. during the Apartment scene) that really broke my heart:

“Concept is that Bucky is in hiding. He’s in very temporary housing, he knows how to escape from this building, he thought it through a thousand times. He keeps a go bag in the floor. He knows if they came through the stairwell he can go this way; if they came through the roof he can go that way. There’s a reason there’s newspaper on the windows, so they can’t see him inside. He knew this time would come, that’s why when he took the gloves off he said ‘It always ends in a fight’, he’s prepared emotionally.”

“Another hard thing: tracking Bucky’s conscious in this movie. He’s at least three different people in this movie. First Bucky who is not fully aware of his past, but somewhere stranded, remembering what he’s done, remembering who he originally was, trying to put it all together, fully powered. Second Bucky is terminator Bucky once Zemo turns him back into Winter Soldier. Third Bucky is the moral wide Bucky after he wakes up from the brainwash. He remembers more than he remembered in the first scene.” 

One last comment that I found very interesting:

[Cap writing a letter to Tony] “is on character for Cap. He’s certainly the kind of guy, no matter how bad something gets, he always owns up to his participation in that issue, that mistake. He is good at processing his emotions and never let it get the better of him. He’s not apologizing for backing Bucky, he’s apologizing for witholding that information, it was very specific. It does not imply repair between these characters, It’s purely Cap being Cap, stating his culpability in the situation...”
