She didn’t like celebrating, even when she was a kid. In her opinion, that day was the worst to ever exist. Every year, she tried to act normal, but she was isolating herself more than usual. Everybody assumed she was trying to avoid being pranked and distracted from work. Great cover up.

I feel that the times Nikki was being hurt by the entity was a mixture of real Nikki and possessed Nikki. Real Nikki wants to die in her situation, begs to be killed. Possessed Nikki externalizes those feelings maybe to try to suppress acting upon it.

Pre-book events, she was hanging on by a thread. She had a lot of unresolved mental issues from basically her whole life. She really only stayed up because she felt like people would perceive her as a ‘coward’ if she took the ‘easy’ way out. Stratt worked and worked, and tried to shut out having a personal life. She liked a guy outside or inside of work? She shuts that part down with work. Her family invites her somewhere? Small reply that immediately told them she had work to do, then purposely add more to her life. If she stopped working, she was under the belief she’d give up quicker. Because she seemed so dedicated with her high ranking job, that caused her to immediately become the leader of the Hail Mary mission. It was the last bit of control she would ever be able to have over anything going on in her life before people would start seeing the broken cracks that accumulated throughout her life. If her mental health deteriorated and she committed during or after the mission, people would most likely blame it on the pressure from the weight of humanity in her hands, giving a very easy cover up that could easily ignore any aspect that built up to it
