Instead of the new dogshit Odyssey film you should watch Iphigenia (1977). It’s made by actual Greek people and focuses on a mother-daughter relationship to explore how women are sacrificed by powerful men in times of war. Also the main actress has the face of an angel 🙏 the whole movie is available on YT with English subtitles.
In the movie you feel Agamemnons conflict, Clytemnestras despair, Iphigenias agony of her fate. Most people picture Greek mythology as only focusing on action but the tales were 90% of the human conflicts through dialogue. Yes it was because back then it wouldn't make sense to have on theater live action war, but even that, to have people describe the situation provided now people to read and understand one's inner conflict, their opinions, their decisions.
Iphigenia didn't need to make a grand scale war of achilles fighting everyone to make the viewer pay attention to the screen. The movie makes you care of the characters, because it was that well written! You know from the start what is inevitable, you know how it'll end, and still you cant take your eyes out of the screen as the story reaches its climax and catharsis.
Greek mythology in pop culture has put more emphasis on action, aesthetics , rather than making the viewer care of the situation, of the culture , of the traditions, of the local people, hence why many dont understand the story or the events. Action btw isn't the worst thing, its how studios use it or have brainwashed people how to view mythologies globally.
They have mixed myths with superheroes being the same thing and you see how they make the heroes be nowadays, empty shells to show some cool moves, some epic action, but when it comes to the characters, their goals, their own arcs, suddenly studios ignore that to fill the time with more action instead of letting the movie breath, resulting in forgettable projects that earned some millions for the studios to repeat itself
Don't accept mediocrity, its okay to demand quality and not quantity
