Recently I found out 20 of my songs were used to train ai without my permission or knowledge. Not just me but many other artists as well.

This felt so weird. I am not even big like that and bigger artists have had this happen to them too. It’s like we don’t get a say. We can’t opt out even if we wanted to and we can’t make any money from the ai that is being trained and will go on to probably make money for somebody, somewhere.

I feel like this is changing everything. We can’t fight it or can we? I will always love creating and being my authentic self cannot be duplicated so that’s the best way I think we can respond to this. I will be even more human, more me, more authentic! I mean what else can I do?

Once I let go, created what I wanted to create and just shared it, it changed everything for me.

As an artist that is also a poet, author, podcastster and educator, I have been travelling the world and doing what I love for a living!

People always ask me, "are you famous?" and i'm like "i don't really think so or aim for that!" Fame is terrifying to me. I am respected in my field and those who need to know me discover me and are still discovering me.

I'm fine with that.

Being myself and expressing myself freely is the goal :)

So what do I do sometimes when I am travelling and I have spare time? I shoot short music video clips that’s what I do hahahhaha.

This is an unreleased tune that I recorded recently called “More Right Here” I should release this. I like this one.

So while I was out in Marrakech, I had space and time to really reflect on what I am doing. I will be dropping these soundbites because I had a lot on my mind.

The conclusion I have come to is authenticity is what matters. That is my starting point and the end goal. I want to be able to look back on my creative journey and be like, “yeah I expressed myself in a real way and was true to myself with what I created”

We are in the weirdest of times to be an artist. It is the best and worst of times simultaneously. All I’m saying is if you feel that creative impulse in you to create and make something, DO IT! MAKE IT ANYWAY!

I am in a very interesting place creatively right now. Take this example, I challenged myself to make a beat, come up with a verse, record it, mix it, make a little video clip just for the heck of it. It is kind of like training. Doing drills and kick ups to stay sharp.

I have a new EP "I Made It Anyway" dropping on May 22nd. I have a new book coming out later on in the year.

Being online is a madness sometimes. I just mind my business, do my thing and just be me. Sometimes I get the weirdest comments and DMs.

One day some random person sent me a DM on TikTok. They were like “what is this your TilTok? It is a bit cringe” and I was like “Huh? That’s not how I see things, you are projecting”

I then found out that “cringe culture” is a whole thing that I didn’t even know about. Nah man, don’t bring that around me! I am not gonna let anyone project their own discomfort, insecurities and internal problems on me just because they can’t handle someone being authentically themselves.

“No Escape (Stranger On Earth)”

Have you ever had someone suddenly out of the blue, believe lies about you and cut you off?

When it starts getting darker earlier and colder, I start getting the blues but I have things I do to manage and deal with it. Rest helps, exercise helps, getting creative definitely helps.

This has been me all day. It feels good when i’m fully immersed. It feels even better when I make something that I like 😊

One thing I have learnt is you can’t assume people know who you are and what you’re about. Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Karl Nova. I am an artist, poet and award winning author. I even have my own podcast that I produce myself called “Karl Nova’s Oddcast”

I rap, sing, perform my poetry live, produce my own music. I write songs, I write poems, I write books. I’m a storyteller. I bring these things I create to life and create moments live in person. I am independent in the truest sense.

I also give back to the next generation by making myself available to try to be an inspiration and encouragement to young people. I visit primary schools, secondary schools, Colleges and Universities doing performances, interactive talks and creative writing workshops . I have been to some of the biggest literary festivals to get busy there too. I will go anywhere. I have done this all over the UK and internationally around the world. I have been consistently out here seeking to uplift, inform, inspire and encourage.
