i can't take the "robby is in a mental health crisis" shit seriously either because his mistreatment of samira hardly gets any resolution and once again it's a WOC who has to be the target of it - the demeaning comments, the bullying, the general lack of support - while she's being actively written off the show while white fans are saying she wasn't fit for the job in the first place.
you are a professional who has to check themselves and at least apologise sincerely regardless of your mental state. but samira isn't getting that. she gets a backhanded compliment on her predisposition to the elderly's pace, guilt for her patient who's likely died while her supervisor jokes about said patient killing themselves, but oh no poor fucking robby.
the reason i'm especially mad at this because it's how insidious it feels. as a black woman who's weeks away from being a doctor and is not unfamiliar with workplace racial dynamics, you are not allowed to have a bad day. the moment you slip up, everyone questions your ability and works to undermine you. there's a double standard.
mohan has, since season 1, stepped up to the challenge. her empathy was something that was to be praised. collins vouched for her where robby didn't. she solved cases that would have been brushed aside. she was slow but that's something that can be fixed, not an idictment to her skill as an ED doctor. and even robby said they needed more samiras because patients loved her. so how come now, when her life is evidently falling apart, she's no longer capable? why is that same grace robby is given endlessly not afforded to her? because non-white women are held to a different standard.
and miss me with that "but most of the cast are diverse" bullshit because most healthcare staff ARE non-white. at least half of doctors in the UK aren't white yet managerialy that's not the case. there's still misrepresentation in leadership roles which influences workplace dynamics. so yeah, i'm sorry. fuck robby and fuck the writers for being so blasé bout the optics when they pitch themselves as the woke doctor show. they could stand to be criticised for it.
