losing your passion for creating is the most infinitely painful thing in this entire world
I actually don't care if a person on food stamps is "just lazy"
It’s really admirable how all of these vehemently anti-vegan leftists don’t buy chocolate or coffee, only use sustainable and fair-trade electronics, and make sure that all of the meat they eat (from local farms, the grocery store, and restaurants) is only farmed and processed by companies that don’t pay undocumented workers slave wages, don’t have astronomically high rates of PTSD in their workers, and don’t feed their livestock crops that are farmed by other slave laborers. It’s a shame about the carcinogens in their leather and farm communities but i’m sure they’ll figure that one out too
people really like to degrade vegan people's advocacy for the liberation of animals from abusive exploitative capitalist systems as if their entire dedication to the movement was formed through them watching a nature documentary one day & having a meltdown over seeing a lion eat a zebra & deciding very firmly that No Animal Should Ever Die Again
I try to convince folks that are thinking about getting into deliberately good choices (reducing waste, veganism/vegetarianism, buying less, taking public transit, etc. etc.) that it's okay if they don't do it perfectly. I'm not looking for ideological purity, I'm looking for power. For results. If all my friends reduced their meat consumption by half, that's (on average) the same impact as if half of them stopped eating meat completely and the other half did nothing. Only, in the former hypothetical, _all_ of my friends made an effort to change their behavior, whereas in the latter, half of them didn't make any change at all.
The super-online Left in particular can be weird about wanting people to have never screwed up, or to walk a perfect line. But I'd rather a world that accepted people who did an okayish job. It's just such an easy choice over people who haven't done anything at all.

"I could be vegetarian but not vegan!"
Then go vegetarian!!!
"i couldn't go vegan, I love cheese too much"
Then go vegan except for cheese!!
"I'd go vegan but I just can't live without (non-vegan brand of cookies)"
Then go vegan except for that non vegan brand of cookies!!!!!
Ultimately everyone should have veganism as their end goal, but you NEED to start somewhere! You cannot achieve any goal if you just do nothing!
jeff goldblum said he stopped eating meat because of wicked and how the movie discusses animal cruelty. he’s 73 btw. it’s never too late to change habits and start having empathy towards animals.
Vegan Letterboxd list
My letterboxd list of 95 films and documentaries that intentionally or unintentionally have vegan/intersectional messaging. Let me know if you have suggestions.
Films/documentaries that intentionally or unintentionally have vegan themes/messages. Not ranked
Introduction
Im Lake, and Im a 31 year old woman residing in Michigan. I have studied sociology and anthropology for 8 years, and been working in the field for 5 years with many different jobs ranging from housing to disabilities. I was always an animal lover as a child, and relatives referred to me as a "tree hugger." I have always been outspoken in my advocacy, and animals were the missing puzzle piece. Also as a woman who indentifies as a feminist with severe inattentive ADHD, raising awarness on the sexism and ableism of animal agriculture has been important to me as well. I have been vegan since March of this year, 2025, and it hit me that immense propaganda, internalization and lobbying prevented me from becoming vegan sooner. I can't believe it took me this long to become vegan, especially with my field of study. From re-reading texts from college, reviewing old assignments, cross referencing new studies to things I have studied in college... I realized veganism intersects with everything Im passionate about and literally work in. Its way too much to explain here, which is why I made this blog. My goal is not to "change" anyone or shame anyone who is not vegan, rather to raise awarness that all forms of oppression are connected and there is power in boycotting and action. Even just cutting back or making conscious choices within your capacity has been statistically shown to help. Since I started this vegan journey, I have experienced alot of grief and anger. To the point my therapist told me to take a break from factory farm videos and studies because I was developing PTSD symptoms. I am now turning that grief and anger into action, I already know the evils so I try to make my algorithms "positive" whether its sanctuary content, policy that benefits us, animals and the planet, etc. And starting this blog.
I hope this blog can help me prepare for grad school, or starting a podcast. Due to my ADHD, consistency is non existent for me. Ive tried everything, which Ill get into another time when I start posting about disabilities. I also would love to write a book about all of this, and this blog can help me flesh out sections of that book and conceptualize my areas of focus.
A few fun facts about me are that I have two cats, both are rescues, and a rescue pigeon. I also have 2 rescue gerbils. I am a vocalist in a hardcore punk band called Crying At Work (CAW) and I make earrings and other art under my small business Kaijukid Co.
Now, what to expect from this blog:
Philosophical and sociological discussion and thoughts regarding animal agriculture and how its connected to nearly every social and environmental issue.
Referencing history and philosophers, scientists, anthropologists, etc alive or dead that supports veganism or intersectional veganism.
Citing studies and articles in support of veganism or intersectional veganism.
Discussing film and books that intentionally or unintentionally have vegan/intersectional meaning.
Citing studies and articles that show the colonial, racist, sexist, ableist, etc etc roots of animal agriculture, and why animal agriculture is currently all of these things as well.
Best vegan food that I have had so far, and where to buy them.
Vegan books, whether its strictly veganism, or correlating veganism to feminism, etc.
Photos of places/sanctuaries I have been that are intentionally or unintentionally vegan/intersectional.
Why veganism, or at least acknowleding veganism, is punk and leftist.
How leftism has failed to include animals and the environment, when they are arguably the missing puzzle pieces to human liberation.
And everything in between! Let me know if you have suggestions.
Thank you for your time and coming along this journey with me.
