Lesser Noble houses who’d been branded as Tens stopped being invited to parties thrown by Facecards they’d once considered friends; Fives started being turned away from businesses they’d once frequented. Soon, signs began appearing on almost every store in the city: 6+ Only, No Lowrankers, Facecards Only, No Ones.

Dissatisfaction rose, tempers flared, and forty years after the King set his curse on the land his Kingdom was torn to shreds. The revolutionaries were victorious, but without a common enemy they split among themselves: forming four factions that divided the capital city into perfect quarters. In a wry nod to their late king, they named themselves after the suits in a deck of cards.
