Misconceptions for Beginner Witches (A debunking)
Yo! Itâs that time where I should be productive again. This time Iâm specifically talking to the beginner or âbabyâ witches. Hi there, friend, how you doing? This is the equivalent of your cool disaster drunk aunt or cousin in the witch community. Today, Iâm gonna tell you about things you shouldnât feel guilt and/or FOMO about in your witchcraft journey. These are just some things Iâve observed myself or had some guilt/fomo about myself.
Meditating âcorrectlyâ - Bud⌠Thereâs no one template for mediation. Youâre opening yourself. Thereâs a ton of ways to do that and a lot of us have issues with attention. Youâre doing fine. Just acknowledge your random thoughts and push them away for later. Keep trying.
Tools needed for âproperâ witchcraft- Nah. Magic does not care about your finances. Itâs all about that intent. If some witch is flanting about how any witch worth their salt needs ___; they may just be salty they spent a small fortune on some rocks for not much. Chances are, theyâre a gatekeeping asshole and you donât need that. Intent and creativity is free. You can make a wand out of anything and you can definitely make anything a tool for your craft.
Every witch needs a deity- thatâs⌠seriously not true. Witches donât have to have a deity/guide. You shouldnât have to force a relationship with a deity/spirit/religion. Your craft is yours. If you donât feel any deity callingâŚthey might not be. And thatâs okay. Youâre not less of a witch for not having an entity. I know I was like that for a while before Apollo pretty much crossed his arms like âAm I a joke to you?â. I wanted a new guide/deity so bad and I didnât work on myself. Perhaps you donât get a deity/entity for now. Maybe thatâs not part of your journey. Maybe itâll never be. Maybe youâll work with multiple entities on a one time exchange thing (yes, that happens and itâs perfectly fine, itâs like a magical business deal). It is all okay. Whatever your path may be, it does not have to have a deity in it. So donât jump in a relationship with one cause theyâll be just as confused sometimes.
A little controversial; but you have to renounce Christianity- I was raised Christian and I left it myself, do you have to do it? No, no you donât. Iâve seen some discourse on Christian witches and I have a very religious family, so I admit Iâve got a small bias on this topic. Iâve just decided to treat Christian witches the same way I treat LGBTQ+ ChristiansâŚI commend you for willingingly being in a community that seriously doesnât seem to like yâall. To each their own, have a good life. Itâs none of my fucking business anyway.Â
Everyone needs to follow the Threefold laws- I remember someone tried to get me to do that and the moment I told them I wasnât Pagan, they were stumped. No, you donât have to follow the Threefold laws. Youâll be fine if you donât. Promise. If you want to follow it, do so. But only if you wish to.
Stick to a path- Eclectic and Chaos witches exist. They are living negation of that idea.Â
All witches must be in a coven- No they donât. Solitary Witches exist and are perfectly fine. Perfect example: Moi. Also: those who choose to be solitary can visit a coven and hang with them for a moment if the coven and the solo witch agree. Perhaps someone needs help or a second opinion or something. Collaboration is a thing. And itâs perfectly fine. A friend of mine started a coven, Iâm allowed to chill and hang with the coven any time, but we both know Iâm not a part of her coven and I doubt I will be.Â
Itâs always about the craft- No. Just no. You donât have to be a witch all the time and its more than okay to take a break, however long you need. Witchcraft can be exhausting. More important things can be happening. Youâre not a failure of a witch if youâre not a witch every second of your life. Be you.Â
Well, thatâs enough of that. Beginner witches, I hope you are a little more at ease or you have some concerns addressed if notâŚwelp. Maybe next time. Anyway, be good and love yourself~
I have to agree with all these things.
Well written information.

some days you are going to be sad and you will feel helpless. this is okay, donât pressure yourself to feel happy. please be gentle with yourself when this happens. stay patient the lows are only temporary and they allow us to feel the true extent of happiness when it comes.Â
The bestest friend I've ever had. This here is Kief and let me tell you about him. We got him at 6 weeks old because his mother got mastitis and her owner wasn't able to keep up on feedings for all 11 puppies. This meant we bonded more so then most owners/pups. Kief believed and still believes he is a human baby. He came into my life during a pretty crappy time. We were living in a 5th wheel trailer on family's property and eventually moved to our own private rental space soon after. I was unable to work, a mix of mental health and pain, both caused by a desmoid tumor being removed from my abdominal wall. I had started therapy but there was a void in my life. We didn't have custody of my stepdaughters and my youngest hasn't been conceived. Kief was my purpose, the thing that got me up in the morning, my reason to go for a walk and keep moving forward instead of sitting at home in pain and self pity. I love him more than I've ever loved another animal. We spent hours on his training every day. Our walks helped my physical recovery as much as my mental health.
Kief now lives with my in lawa. On our transition to a better living situation, he was unable to come with due to breed restrictions and biases. It was a great choice as my in laws had recently lost their long time puppers to old age and were feeling the hole he left. Kief is still a people and treated very much as such. He has his own "throne" which is a large ottoman that sits in the middle of the living room, and is surrounded by love and grandkids.
