The only reason that AI has any presence in our economy is that Microsoft, Google, Meta, and Amazon are intent on spending more than $765 billion in capital expenditures in 2026 and a trillion more in 2027 because they have no other hypergrowth ideas, even though generative AI has yet to show any real potential as something that can drive meaningful revenues (let alone profits), as evidenced by the fact that none of these companies break out their actual AI revenues, a point I made on CNBC late last week. Google does not have the next Google Search, Microsoft does not have the next Microsoft Office, Meta does not have the next Facebook, and Amazon does not have the new AWS. That’s why they need you to believe that AI is a big deal without them ever having to prove why outside of capital expenditures. They want you to assume that all this money can’t be wrong, even though when you remove OpenAI and Anthropic (who represent 89% of the revenues of the largest AI companies) the AI industry is, at best, pulling in $20 billion in annual revenue.
Ed Zitron, Let AI Burn
Ai evangelists like to frame Ed Zitron as inflammatory and biased against Ai. But he’s got the numbers.
Revenue and profit are not the same thing. To put this in perspective, nearly all ai companies are operating at a loss. A massive loss of billions of dollars.
Anthropic is the main exception but they are subsidized by aws, google, and meta. For example Amazon invests billions of dollars into Anthropic. Anthropic then uses that cash to then buy computing power from Amazon.
I understand how the average person doesn’t fully comprehend the very real physical limits of cloud computing because end users are usually pretty far removed from them. Growing up with the internet at your fingertips it can all seem sort of magical and unknowable.
But if you actually work in cloud computing ai evangelism is willful ignorance. You should know better.
I don’t think ai is going to completely disappear from the face of the planet or anything but I think Zitron is fairly grounded in reality.
Given Mike Walters introduces a 27 year old man as a twink, I think we all should’ve realized that he was always going to be fundamentally opposed to the concept of twink death

Idea I just had: Print and bind the Woe.Begone transcripts.
Like. It'd be entirely for my own enjoyment. Amd the transcripts are freely available. So i figure there's no issue there.
It just would be fun to read Woe.Begone.
But yeah no, I'd need to set some money aside for it, cause it's gonna take a lot of paper and ink.
So. Uh fun project for future me. :)
ooooh. That's such a fun idea! You may want to keep in mind that early uploads are still scripts, not transcripts. Sometimes there are big changes between the two
The transcripts team is always looking for more volunteers if you want to help our changing that 👀
That is true yeah.
Hm honestly that might be awesome. :)
Yahoooooooo. There's a transcriptions thread under the wiki channel if you're on the woebecord :D
if not... I will also take the liberty to tag @justjenah - they organize the transcription efforts and iirc they're hosting a little How To Get Started tutorial about it soon :D
Oh heck yea! I’m planning to run a little tutorial (or a couple!) this summer (summer in the northern hemisphere!)! If you want to get started before then feel free to DM me! I’m happy to help you get set up!

yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
Queer money used to be fully rejected. Being visibly queer meant being rejected for a car loan or a mortgage.
This is a capitalist system so yeah rainbow capitalism is not real pride but it is/was also a reflection of the fact that queer people could be visibly queer and considered worth marketing to. It also carried with it the implication that it was at the very least socially risky to be queerphobic. At least openly.
This does not make brands “allies” or “woke”. It’s a barometer.
So yeah. It’s pretty bad when rainbow capitalism gets quiet.
posting a bit late, but this was my contribution to the WOE.BEGONE fanzine: WOE.BEZINE 💫 The zine is full of thought-provoking essays, amazing art and fics that brings out the best of the show:) amazing work from all contributors. make sure to check it out if you haven't already!
This was a sort-of appreciation piece for one of my favourite w.bg songs Cenotaph. Even today I think it's one of the songs that is just so explicitly Mike(y)(ael). Thanks for having me @woebegonefanzine !
So gorgeous and such a perfect tribute to an incredible song
happy stink day!
It's Stinky's birthday! As Skinner would *probably* say "Happy birthday princess!"

Wanna learn the process of creating WOE.BEGONE Transcripts for the website? Let me know below.
Yes! I would be interested in joining a short training (20-30 minutes)
Nah, thanks though.
Do me a favor and boost this poll so WOE.BEGONE folks see it. If you've ever bemoaned the fact that a certain transcript wasn't on the WOE.BEGONE website, now's your time to shine! A "yes" vote does not commit you to anything. This is just to gauge interest.
happier times
Thinking about this again. I still can’t get over the fact that you did this FOR ME and managed to do it in THREE HOURS. I love this fandom
Reading and Representing Plurality in WOE.BEGONE
or: Plural Characters Without Plural Representation
i wrote an essay about plurality and representation in this one audio drama but also kinda in general. it's written without any knowledge of the show required. mostly it's thinking through, like, maybe "representation" isn't a great model for thinking of plurality (at least) in fiction, "accidental plurality" in fiction, and maybe we shouldn't pester authors for representation or explicit identity labeling when reading is where the meaning is made anyway, idk.
i hope people like it. :)

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
For my submission to the WOE.BEZINE, I wrote an essay on how the narrative, the characters, and the audience all engage with the concept of ✨Primacy ✨ and how those things enhance the horror and storytelling of WOE.BEGONE.
Thanks to all the mods from @woebegonefanzine for all your hard work in making a gorgeous zine!
skinner... they freak me out but fascinate me at the same time
Holy shit I love them
