yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
Queer money used to be fully rejected. Being visibly queer meant being rejected for a car loan or a mortgage.
This is a capitalist system so yeah rainbow capitalism is not real pride but it is/was also a reflection of the fact that queer people could be visibly queer and considered worth marketing to. It also carried with it the implication that it was at the very least socially risky to be queerphobic. At least openly.
This does not make brands âalliesâ or âwokeâ. Itâs a barometer.
So yeah. Itâs pretty bad that rainbow capitalism gets quiet.
