The rude, new neighbors with the Trump signs moved, making our block great again.
“This is your daily, friendly reminder to use commas instead of periods during the dialogue of your story,” she said with a smile.
“Unless you are following the dialogue with an action and not a dialogue tag.” He took a deep breath and sat back down after making the clarifying statement.
“However,” she added, shifting in her seat, “it’s appropriate to use a comma if there’s action in the middle of a sentence.”
“True.” She glanced at the others. “You can also end with a period if you include an action between two separate statements.”
Things I didn’t know
“And–” she waved a pen as though to underline her statement–“if you’re interrupting a sentence with an action, you need to type two hyphens to make an en-dash.”
THANK YOU

“Hot in Herre” Erasure (27/30)
Yahtzee (21/30)
Life is like a game of Yahtzee. You put the dice in the cup. You shake things up. You see how it turns out.
Also, I don’t know to play Yahtzee.

Shout out to all the poets pushing pens and churning out sucky and not-so-sucky poems this April. You’ve got this.
I wrote the first draft of this poem for the National Poetry Month poem-a-day challenge last year. Several of the poems of my chapbook Everything Has a Place started as seeds from past NaPoWriMos. Grad school is keeping me too busy complete the challenge this month (I stopped after six!), but I plan on picking up where I left off on May 7th.
“Everything Has a Place LIVE!” (a live recording of my January book release show) will be available for download exactly one week from today: Tuesday, 4/26. You can find it on my website: justinpoet.com

Introducing my first video from the “Everything Has a Place” book release show. I figured some folks might need to hear this today.
XOXO, Justin
Between starting grad school, working on my chapbook and continuing my practice of exchanging poems with my good friend Samer, 2015 has been an excellent year for feedback. Here are some of my favorite moments.

Skipped the horror film about the census. It was too demo graphic.
Thanks to the good folks at Write About Now for posting my piece from Finals’ Stage. I wrote the first draft of “At Home and Abroad” in 2012 when James Holmes opened fire in a Colorado movie theater, and feels even more relevant today.
