I think the fans who continue throwing items on stage after being told not to is such a slap in the face to the artist and shows you don’t respect their art. I think Louis was upset/sad about that respect towards his music not being reflected in his fans actions in Denver tonight (especially on a night that could have potentially been important). I love Louis and the relationship he has built with us as fans, but I felt there was actual dislike in his actions towards those people throwing stuff on stage. Which, rightfully so, but I honestly felt sad with his behavior too. The words and actions he used to articulate how he was feeling about things being thrown on stage put a damper on the show. Artist will have people at their shows who are shitty, but I feel there’s has to be a better way to reach an audience. I think this would ensure actions are taken without compromising the way others feel during a concert. I understand celebrities are people too, but eye rolling and flipping people off in my opinion is not it. I still love Louis don’t get it twisted lol. I just needed to share some thoughts
Yeah, it's incredibly disrespectful to throw food at someone who is singing for you. Someone that a lot of people have waited years and years to see and paid good money to see.
It's a rock show. Louis is a rock frontman. It's his job to bring some attitude to the show and if people give him shit, there's no reason he shouldn't give it back.
Frankly, I think we should be grateful that Louis has been as accommodating and generous to his fans as he has been. He was well within his rights to have the nugget thrower kicked out tonight, at a minimum. Plenty of artists in his position would've laid into the asshole and they'd be completely justified.
I believe a big reason he didn't do that is, as he said, he knows that the person throwing nuggets probably is a fan of him and wants to see the show. And he's choosing to prioritize the asshole throwing nuggets getting to see the show and be a fan over his own ability to perform and feel safe on stage. Incredibly, incredibly gracious way of handling it.
But I do think there's a big communication problem. Some Louies seem to have a caricature of Louis in their minds. And one of the biggest contributing problems is Americans not recognizing British-isms. I listened to a podcast recently where they talked about having to interpret British aggression for Americans. They said that they had been in meetings and the American left believing it went well and they had to tell them that "No, the British guy literally hates you. That went terribly."
So you have fans who are not great with nuance to begin with, and then an artist who is expressing himself in a very subtle way.
I believe that the other factor here is his 1D stage training. He's accustomed to massive audiences where you need to keep things moving no matter what and one person throwing stuff isn't as disruptive to the show. Plus, he has to be careful with how he reacts to things because the more direct he is, the more potential there is for some shitty tabloid rag to make a drama out of it. The S*n is always waiting to drag him through the mud.
I'm a big believer that usually artists can just directly tell their fans what they want and the fans will adjust. So far Louis' strategy has been to minimize and deflect with humor. Unfortunately, getting his point across requires being blunt and openly mad like he was tonight. And a lot of us are mad with him. We want to be there for the art and to enjoy the show he puts on and fans taking their "relationship" with Louis to rude, disruptive, insensitive places is making that difficult. I hope that his somewhat shocking anger tonight is a wakeup call for those people. It needs to be.
You're also a lot more exposed, a lot more vulnerable, in front of a smaller audience. Violating that is really a terrible thing to do to an artist. And throwing food at them while they're sharing a moment with everyone in the room is super violating to the space they're trying to create. We've said over and over that these shows are safe spaces for us all. It's not a safe space when you're disrespecting everyone in the room by throwing food like a fucking zoo animal.
So let's all remember the difference between last night where people brought tons of energy and passion to the show and we had an amazing show and Louis got to show off his full potential & tonight where everything was shaded by a collective anger at the disrespect shown toward him. Make the rest of his shows Kansas City, not Denver.
