Okay… just please consider the following scenario. It’s five to ten years from now. You’re sitting in a restaurant, enjoying a lovely meal, when I walk in, accompanied by my wife, my children, and my human pet (whose genitals are covered as it enters on all fours and is wearing underpants). If my family and I then make an order of our own at the table next to you, in what way have we infringed upon your freedom? What rational basis do you have to demand that we leave or beloved pet at home? H*ck it all, let’s consider a more extreme scenario.  It’s five to ten years from now. You’re sitting in a restaurant, enjoying a lovely meal, when I walk in, without my wife and children (for whatever reason, they haven’t accompanied me), with my surgically modified human pet (wearing a collar) being lead in by it’s leash. My pet has been spayed/neutered (though you can’t tell because its genitals -along with its boobies if its a female- have been covered up), it has no vocal chords, and it walks on all fours not by choice, but because its toes have been removed, along with the tendons in its ankles being severed (it may also have had its thumbs and the last two segments of each finger amputated, making it easier to care for -no fingernails to trim-). Perhaps I’ve even (humanely) removed its eyes, making it less independent. Even in this scenario, I haven’t infringed upon your liberties. “Irrationally prejudiced” is precisely what you are.

The way that most of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories’ most horrible villains are rich dudes that are abusive to women, in a time such as the 1880’s, compels me.

There’s a whole subset of Sherlock Holmes stories that could be labeled Asshole Guys Try to Control Women’s Money.

Yup, there’s a huge number of times where Sherlock Holmes is the ONLY person to take a young woman’s complaint or worry seriously and finds out someone is up to some serious evil.  Holmes also shows a lot of compassion and empathy with the victims over and over again.  (This is why I find “Secretly a woman” or “Trans” Holmes headcanons much more convincing than “sociopath” Holmes.)

This is also the basis for a lot of speculation about Holmes’ family life.  The idea that he has been a victim of abuse, or his mother was abused (or even murdered by his father.)  There’s definitely SOMETHING that makes him very aware of how dangerous isolated families can be, and the dark things that can happen behind closed doors.  Plus, of course, the motivation to devote himself to stopping crime.  And yes, so much of it is of the personal type.

ok so i didnt expect this video to blow up because i was just posting it to show it to my friends really but now that it has nearly 8k notes i feel like i have to say something. stop calling the grown ass adults in this video "cute" or "sweet". it's extremely infantilizing. adults with down syndrome aren't babies. how would you feel if you were a grown ass man or woman making a self advocacy video because your disability is heavily stigmatized and then having some random people say "oh how cute". i'd be really fucking pissed off myself. adults with down syndrome are adults. they should be treated with respect. i know y'all dont mean anything by it either. but regardless, your responses are a product of ableism. think about that a little bit.
