“Being born quirkless in a world where most everyone has a quirk of some kind” is a pretty solid premise. Gives us the whole “rooting for the underdog” theme from the get-go. Izuku gets rejected at every turn for wanting more than anything to be a hero, and he’s rejected every time due to having no quirk. I get it. I get that. I see that. 

But also, I just need to say, I lose my mind every time I rewatch episode 1. Every goddamn time and it’s strictly because of this screenshot.

These are. These are Izuku’s classmates. The ones pursuing the hero track. Somehow the series’ world-building just glosses over the fact that ¾ of the quirked populace has stupid fucking quirks. That seems important. That’s a big fucking deal. Like Horikoshi could only draw so many background characters before going “fuck it, he’s got fucking stretchy fingers that’s his fucking quirk”.

That fucker in the middle. That fucking stupid snail-boy. What’s he gonna do? Is he gonna spy on villains by looking over a wall that’s one foot taller than he is? “Oh shit boss, he’s looking above eye-level, we’re screwed now boss”  It’s called a ladder shit-idiot. Like?? Fuck?! Snail-boy here’s gonna just, make some fucking bolas with his eyeballs? Gonna fucking lasso some villains with his bolas-fucking eyes, this stupid motherfucker? I could punch snail boy in his bitch mouth and I don’t have a quirk.

The Vox article that I was interviewed for is up and running, and it contains some serious fuckign information about this whole fiasco.

Information that tumblr just straight up refused to provide to its userbase at all.

Unsurprisingly to those of us watching this website deteriorate over the last year, this full content purge and ban has been in progress for a solid 6 months. The date got moved up because of the child porn thing, but it was always coming for us.

Equally unsurprising: Tumblr’s management and ownership are absolutely destroying the actual staff working on it. The company has been hemoragghing senior staff without so much as a token attempt to keep them in place. So the drops in site quality are real, and wil probably only be getting worse.

In a nutshell, it’s a piece of interactive fiction (or a text adventure, if you’re old school) whose gimmick revolves around using various magic devices to add, delete, or rearrange letters in the names of objects in the game world, thus transforming them into the object(s) so named. As you can image, the possible outcomes get pretty esoteric, especially once you figure out how to disable the safeties and anagram intangibles and abstractions.

A few personal favourites include:

The bartender will no longer paddle the musical piece.

Gelling the tub is now allowed.

Adds a WINNER LOGO CHOCOLATE to be the singular of the same object, and a HOOTING OWL CONCEALER as its anagram.

Makes children cry when you break the hanging figure with the severed arm.

Adds BROKEN COMPONENT and CEMENT PORNO KNOB as products of the BROKEN COMPONENTS.

Some people feel uncomfortable using “spirit animal” so I offer you a replacement: fylgje

It means “companion” and they are protective spirits of individuals or families in Norse mythology. They’re usually animals or mythological creatures who occasionally take the shape of women. Other people might see a person’s fylgje while the person sleeps.

The animal is symbolic of the person they protect, so a big strong guy or a protective mother might have a bear, and a clever person a fox and so on.
