Me at 11 pm: Finally studying chemistry after a whole day of doing nothing.
Aren’t I the most studious of them all?
I’ve been thinking about Maria Skłodowska Curie today (mostly because of @guilty-as-battery-charged‘s post about her), and here’s a few things I’ve learned from Wikipedia (and also the sources):
Her tomb and her husband’s tomb at the Panthéon in Paris are lead-lined as her/their bodies are radioactive.
A lot of her items (from clothes, to her research notes, etc) are still radioactive and will be for another 1500 years. (Or 1495 years, since the article that says this is five years old)
Pierre died in an accident unrelated to radioactivity, but it’s postulated that the radioactivity would have killed him as it did Maria, their daughter Irène, and Irène’s husband Frédéric.
Also Irène and Frédéric changed their names to Joliot-Curie after they married. They did this in the 20s.
Maria and Pierre’s grandchildren via Irène and Frédéric (Hélène Langevin-Joliot and Pierre Joliot) are still living and are over 85. Hélène is a nuclear physicist and Pierre is a biologist (possibly biophysicist or biochemist or maybe both?).
Ève Curie (Maria and Pierre’s other daughter) lived to 102.

"Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less".
"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained".
"I am one of those who think like Nobel, that humanity will draw more good than evil from new discoveries".
"If I had not been taught chemical analysis by prof. Milicer and dr. Kossakowski in Warsaw, I would not have isolated radium".
"I am among those who think that science has great beauty. A scientist in his laboratory is not only a technician: he is also a child placed before natural phenomena which impress him like a fairy tale".
"Humanity also needs dreamers, for whom the disinterested development of an enterprise is so captivating that it becomes impossible for them to devote their care to their own material profit".
"You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful".
"I was taught that the way of progress was neither swift nor easy".
— Maria Skłodowska Curie

I would rather get shot in a vital organ than take mathematical physics again. That shit was the worst!

Analysis and Interpretation of Teaching Practice.
What factors influenced the design and implementation of your lesson plan?
I was trying to create an activity that was dynamic and easy to understand for such a complex topic.
What type of activities did you implement in class?
Especially worksheets, examples to complement as a group and that they create their own examples.
How did the teaching techniques adapt to the groups’ needs?
I suppose that since they are in high school level, they know when to participate, although the reality is that we try to put it at their level, I think it was very useful to ask simple questions to get into more depth on the subject.
How did you assess students and give feedback?
Through the examples and activities they did, we could give them feedback and know what topics needed to be studied in depth.
What were the participants' reactions or responses to the actions?
They refused to participate but if we saw an improvement in their participation, it helped a lot that two of them participated very much.
What difficulties or surprises emerged during or after the actions?
That they were very reluctant to participate and that their age was very close to mine.
What actions worked and didn’t work regarding students’ learning outcomes?
I consider that very complex questions did not work with the group but easier questions did, something that surprised me too much is that they did not follow my jokes therefore I preferred to be more serious
How do you account for these results?
Well, they are a generation to which English although it seems important to them, they do not see it as a priority.
What might be done differently in the future?
I think I could use more technological activities to promote the activity through games.
What competences did you develop during your teaching practice?
Develop the ability to plan effectively in a short period of time, solve problems and look for alternatives on the moment, as well as inspire respect to myself in a classroom as a teacher.
