how did we lose the plot so hard with feminism and activism like seriously… are we forgetting that being kind and loving to the men and boys in your life, teaching them as kids if you are a parent to be kind respectful humans, and showing them how to be emotionally vulnerable and making a society in which it is safe to do so was like…. A huge part of feminism, dismantling patriarchal values, and creating a generation of loving men who are held accountable for their actions?
Why is it “kill all men yes even the trans ones and if you say otherwise you’re an MRA” and not “let’s maybe create a world that encourages good men.” Did we forget that feminism was supposed to be good for everyone and that the patriarchy harms men and boys as well?
Like maybe we should care about male loneliness and the male suicide rate BECAUSE MAYBE WED HAVE FEWER SOCIETAL PROBLEMS if 100% of the population wasn’t traumatized by gendered expectations and not being taught decent communication skills/how to be emotionally vulnerable. And definitely we would if fucking redpill echo chambers weren’t the places most willing to accept and nurture (groom into hateful ideology) young men.
The problem has never been men, cis or trans, being uniquely capable of evil the problem has always been the fact that cishet patriarchal culture encourages and rewards shitty behavior that makes everyone involved bitter and miserable and calls it masculinity.

I don't understand why "Adrian doesn't like Grace at first" is as popular as it is on fanfics.
Imagine for a second you are Adrian surname The Eridian. Your spouse has been missing and presumed dead for around a decade, and suddenly one day an alien spaceship comes into orbit. And you cheer "Yay alien species have realized we have the same problem and have come to either give us a solution or join or efforts, too bad my mate is still gone."
Except he is not actually gone, because the eridian equivalent of a carebear decided to save them. And he doesn't want anything in return, in fact he is well aware that he might die A PAINFUL SLOW DEATH, shortly after fighting just to get the love of your life back to you. But it's ok :) because Rocky (yes he gave them a silly name) is my best friend! Oh- Are you ok-
No, Rocky is first and foremost a Grace hater (affectionate)
Made a comment….got stuck in my brain; now we’re here. It’s midnight. Enjoy.
things in phm that really tickled me as a marine biologist:
the concept of star-eating microbes causing a crisis and the solution being the introduction of space wolves to space yellowstone to control the space elk population. i love a good trophic cascade
dr ryland grace immediately pitching "turn the spaceship into a giant centrifuge to generate gravity" and then not balancing his actual centrifuge later on
the entire "life is reason" scene really
grace forgetting to open the mystery alien container in a fume hood AND immediately sticking his nose in it. if we did this in chemistry lab we were executed on the spot
academia drama being one of the cornerstones of grace's character
grace switching through every spectrum setting on the microscope to try to see into the astrophages and not being able to (relatable)
also: the astrophage dying and grace going "ohhh it died..." (very relatable)
grace having his not-scientist buddy Carl to give him frank solutions when he's overthinking. yes, often the solution is just to put the box in another box
copious duct tape usage
just sticking a filter into the path of the petrova line to collect astrophage goop
eva going "so it's alive" when grace tells them the astrophage are moving, and him being like "WELL ok that could be for a lot of reasons" in the tone of someone who doesn't even know where to start explaining why that's a hasty assumption
grace referring to the first new astrophage as his and carl's baby multiple times (HIGHLY relatable)
humanity's greatest hope being a teacher. humanity being saved by grace's ability to find novel ways to communicate well with others -- something that made him excellent as an educator, and enabled him to bond with rocky
i listened to the director's commentary last night while i was sceeencapping and they mentioned that when rocky says his name its more like a
"I am Rocky, first of my name, of the east Rockies and my people have been mechanics here for generations" sort of clan introduction than simply his given name
which makes a lot of sense that the little raspberry chirp he makes for grace's name is so short! bc he doesn't know anything about grace yet.
also means that that other ppst about adrian helping to come up with a full name for grace so he can introduce himself as "doctor ryland grace" would be absolutely accurate. as he became more well known, his name would get longer.
ALSO ALSO when rocky says adrian's name-- is he saying like "adrian, second of their name, of the dark caverns and cold stone"
or is he like "adrian, love of my life, most loyal and beautiful and honorable, strongest soul ive ever known"
bc that man gets INTO saying his mate's name, is all im sayin'
This one made me laugh hard enough that it gets to skip the queue and get posted immediately

stop calling it a girl dinner and call it by its formal name: Fend For Yourself dinner in an ingredients household
weaver's web
"lupita nyong'o can't be helen of troy because helen was greek and there weren't black people in ancient greece"
DO YOU THINK THESE MOTHERFUCKERS DIDNT HAVE BOATS. THIS ENTIRE MOVIE IS ABOUT ONE OF THOSE MOTHERFUCKERS AND HIS BOAT
Not only that, one of the foundational myths of Ancient Greece is about (among other things), a guy (Perseus) rescuing a black woman (Andromeda) and bringing her back to Greece to be his queen. Specifically, they are the first king and queen of Mycenae, the central city state of Bronze Age Greece. These two are the ancestors of Heracles.
The founding mother of Ancient Greek civilization was a black woman.
Phm from Adrian's perspective is just what if you were Penelope and Odysseus came home but he also brought a jellyfish and keeps begging you to build a fish tank for the jellyfish and make jellyfish food for the jellyfish and youre an ancient Greek whos never seen a jellyfish and you cant even comprehend how your going to do it but youre going to because if you dont Odysseus may kill himself. And also the jellyfish can do like. Witchcraft.

It's incredibly important to me that men in the Odyssey will just break down in tears at a moments notice. Every time anyone mentions Odysseus everyone starts crying. Telemachus cries because he misses his dad and when he finds his dad and when he hugs his dad, Peisistratus is crying just because Telemachus is, Menelaus is bawling his eyes out so much Helen needs to sedate him. Odysseus cries when he's happy and when he's sad and when he meets his parents and when he misses his home and when he returns to his home and when he sees just any land at all and when he has to think about any of the terrible things that happened to him. And in a media enviroment where I predominantly see a guy shed a single tear at the death of his entire family I find that very yummy
The bow being plucked in the odyssey was the sound of a period accurate lyre by the way. Exactly like how bards would emphasize beats and motifs and movements in their retelling of myths. If you even care.
