Pairing: Luke Patterson x reader Word count: 2547 Warning(s): None Summary: A collection of seen and unseen moments in parts 1 and 2 of Step Into My World, written from Luke’s perspective as he realizes he’s falling for the reader. Notes:

Happy first day of JATP appreciation week! The prompt was to write from the POV of a favorite character. Step Into My World seems to be the favorite of most of my readers, and I was thinking about how Charlie and Madison have pinpointed where Julie and Luke realize they like each other, and I’d done the same with SIMW, but we never see it from Luke’s point of view, so I’m excited to have the chance to show it to you guys. I try to write all of my fics to have a gender neutral reader unless specifically requested otherwise. I knew there was something special about Y/N the moment she walked in.

She didn’t seem nervous or scared or even skeptical. And, yeah, I thought she was pretty cute.

I tried to stay focused. I knew we were helping Julie make things right with her two best friends. But when she had them sit down on the couch, a part of me couldn’t stop thinking about being over there next to Y/N.

When Julie grabbed Flynn and brought her over to Reggie, I took it as an excuse to leave more room open for them and crossed to the mic near the couch.

Julie looked like she was going to come grab Y/N next, but she saw me and I guess she decided against it. Whatever the reason, I was glad.

Y/N looked at me after Flynn put her hand through Reggie. I held my hand out to her, and she reached out for me. Of course, she passed right through me, too. But it was like I could almost feel it.

“That’s so weird,” she said.

I smiled in response. I wondered if she’d felt the same thing I had.

Anyways she’s been telling me about these struggles for ages, and recently the topic came to me, and what I want to do with my life, and from there she picked up that I regularly suffer from pretty extreme depression, which of course she’s a bit of a vet at herself, and she’s said to me multiple times “hey you ever need to come over and talk, I’ll listen, I know what it’s like”. This from a woman who has happily admitted she hasn’t made friends in the area her own age because “I can’t stand listening to their stupid problems”.

Last week, after her car broke down (again), she told me how her lawyer had just gone OFF at her daughter, and how her daughter had finally agreed to send her a bit of money, and we were both waiting for it this week

so today she was in, one of the juniors served her but she saw me and gestured me over and fucking showed me her bank statement

Most of the discussion of whether allo people can write ace characters all comes down to the same debate over and over: are you allowed to write ace people having sex or not?  With responses ranging from “No, never!” to “Yes, always!” with rarely any nuance.  But the fact is that there are just as many ways to insensitively write an asexual character in the most G-rated fics, and I never see any discussion on that.  So I’m starting one myself!

(warning for mention of acephobia and negative stereotypes about asexuality)

- If you’re about to characterize Jon as prudish or judgmental about sex: you need to really, really question how you reached that assumption.  In the actual show, there is one line that he doesn’t want sex for himself.  Meanwhile, when Georgie went on a date, Jon immediately offered to leave the flat in case she wanted to have someone over for the night.  He didn’t even have a place to go and was ON THE RUN FROM THE POLICE but his first instinct was “oh maybe Georgie wants privacy?  I should give her privacy” without a touch of judgment!!  

- Even the fandom joke about “Jon is judging Tim for having sex with his info contacts” is completely blown out of proportion.  Tim is never even described as having sex with his contacts, just getting information while on dates, and Jon only got frowny because of the risk of Tim dating two people from the same station.  Seeing this twisted into “slutty bisexual and the prudish asexual judging him for it” jokes is both acephobic and biphobic.

- Is Jon emotionally repressed?  Aboslutely.  Is he sexually repressed?  Given that a) he is asexual and b) he was confident enough in his asexuality to have firm boundaries against having sex in his previous relationship–no.  If you want to write Jon as a different ace subtype, great, but framing it as “he just needs to work past his repression to push himself to be more comfortable having sex” is a swan dive into all sorts of acephobic grossness–and again, the way people see us IRL.  The way our friends and families pressure us re: our own lives.  PLEASE take this into consideration.

- And if you’re aiming for that heartwarming “they’re all friends now!” season 1 fix-it fic, including the team routinely sexually harassing Jon because they think his discomfort is funny isn’t as heartwarming as you think it is.

Every week, you had to feed Keith another lie as to why you couldn’t go on a date with him.

You could have simply told him you weren’t interested, but he was your boss, and you were worried that letting him down harshly would have consequences. It wasn’t like there were a plethora of jobs in Hawkins once the mall burned down; Family Video was all you had. Family Video and your creepy, weird boss that always carried a bag of Cheetos with him.

You’d say just about anything to get him off your back - that you were busy with school, or you had plans with family, or you were sick. Anything to get him to walk away. You even spent a week trying to make yourself look sick - sunken and dark undereyes, hardly combed hair. It was so convincing that Steve walked up to you and put his hand against your forehead to feel for a fever.

“Not sick,” you told him.

“You look like hell,” he said, brows furrowed.

“That’s very sweet,” you said, and continued to the back room to sort tapes.

But this week, you were out of ideas. You didn’t know what to tell him.

“Friday, you and me?” Keith asked, hand sunken into a bag of Cheetos. “We can go to a haunted house.”

“Oh, I can’t,” you say weakly.

“What’s got you so damn busy this week?”

You searched your brain for any kind of excuse before blurting out, “I’m going to one with Steve.”

The Cheeto bag fell from Keith’s hand.

Though a number of content creators have no problem coloring POC properly, it’s still a fairly big issue from what we see on our end. We often have to skim past edits (some of which we’re tagged in) because of whitewashing and orangewashing. If no one addresses this issue, then nothing will change.
