Chell was about to move onto a new testing chamber when she noticed a white panel sticking out from the wall of the hallway that led to the lift. Not letting go of her portal gun, she grabbed the exposed edge with one hand and pulled until it gave way just wide enough for her to slip through. The woman gazed at the small construction corridor behind it, picking up some kind of new noise and preceding forwards with caution without glancing back at the waiting elevator. @jumpsuitsandlongfallboots
The panelâs entrance was long and narrow, only a single person crouching could fit through it, and perhaps a cube, dark and damp and smelling of something old, it didnt give way until the ventilation shaft expanded and beneath a constantly, slow moving motor sat a man- or what looked like one. His hair was long, stuck to his face, bright, baby blue eyes glued to the wall as he stared up at the paintings he had done the night prior. A can of beans settled in one unhealthily bony hand, and the other itching at his head.Â
âHow longâhhhmmmânot longâ not long now-â he muttered, almost encouraging himself beneath his breath. âNot long- sheâs almost d-âÂ
His whole body went ridged, can of beans falling from his hand, those wild blue eyes bolting to see her in his small hovel. It was in that moment that the animal like being went into a frenzy, toppling over the cube he had been sitting on and scrambling to the furthest wall from her. âNnnOOOOOOOo!!! SHES HERE SHES HERE!!â he all but wailed, crumpling down to be as small as possible. HIs mind was reeling, sweat slipping down his face as quivering fingers grabbed and tangled into his raven head of hair. âShhhh-â The cube whispered to him. âDeep breathes- slowly my friend. Try to think of the safe things.â Doug whimpered, his voice hitching and spiking as violent air tore into him. But he did as he was told, and hugged his head down between his knees, shivering and trying to remember the good things.Â

Chell stepped back cautiously with wide eyes when she heard the commotion. Her mind was stuttering for a moment as well, trying to decipher logically leaps from the facts that this current scene brought to her attention. Another living human had finally been seen by her own eyes, giving her heart a strange electric feeling of hope. However, this emotion died down to smaller sparks when she noted how malnourished and unstable he was.Â
That painting behind him... was he responsible for the ones she had been seeing all around the facility? Interesting...So those painting hadnât just been recent...the painter was still alive to claim ownership of it all. How long had he been driving himself mad down here, with nothing but poor food, his art and...a robot? It looked more advanced than a personality core...
Chell took another step back but didnât run, waiting to see if this stranger still had the mental capacity to pull himself together.
Chell couldnât tell if she was home or far from it, but the camera sure made her lean towards the latter. Setting her bag down in front of the bed, the brunette began to scan the room closely to see if there was anything else other than the camera to be worried about. Still debating over how she felt about all of this, Chell gave a thumbs up to the camera before going over to check if the bathroom had a camera in it
There was no camera in the bathroom, luckily. Evidently, GLaDOS had decided that she didnât need to observe what disgusting human activities went on in there.
Letting out a small sigh of relief, Chell returned to where she had left her belongings and began to rummage through it once more. After re-taking inventory of what all had been brought down here, she stretched her arms high above her head before roughly allowing herself to fall into the admittedly comfortable bed. Though her eyes were closed, it was hard to tell if she had actually dozed off that fast.

Something I want to try...
Iâm thinking of an AU I would love to try out. To summarize, itâs an addition to the Android AU where Wheatley and GLaDOS (and the other personality cores) have more human-like bodies than robotic. In this version though, Chell gets injured during a test (bonus points if it wasnât her fault, maybe GLaDOS caused a platform to disappear out of frustration or Wheatley distracted her) and has to have her conscious transferred into an Android much like the other facility inhabitants. Coping with this newfound form would be difficult enough for Chell, but I have a certain plot twist in mind should someone take me up on this ideaâŚÂ
Would you guys want to see this as a thread or should I just go ahead and write a fanfic based on this?

She was still careful through, watching the floor and walls for any movement as she made her way to a room without a name plate on it. Even if GLaDOS was being unusually hospitable, it gave Chell all the more reasons to be suspicious of any and everything.
The quiet background hum of the facility pulsing with mechanical life was a sound she hadnât forgotten thanks to her reoccurring dreams. The smell was a different case however, something akin to a hospital, mechanic shop and a construction site all in the same building. It brought back a sort of twisted nostalgia with it, a feeling Chell wanted to shrug off but hang onto for familiarity all at the same time.
The room looked much the same as Chellâs old one, but this one seemed cleaner and newer â brand-new, in fact, as if it were hot off the factory press. There was a bed, a TV, a microwave, a mini fridge, a bathroom, and a window with a view of GLaDOSâs chamber in the distance.
Chell blinked in surprise at the state of the room, a small smile starting to appear on her face until she recalled what had happened the last time she was in a room like this. The familiar image of a small, round robot stole her grin back. Thinking about the first time she had seen him led immediately to memories of the last time she had seen him, which turned her blank expression into a full on frown. It hurt to remember, but at the very least she wouldnât have to worry about him reappearing anytime soon, considering he was still floating around up somewhere in space...right?

Chell mulled over the idea in her head for a moment before giving GLaDOS a thumbs up. If She didnât keep Her word, they could repeat their song and dance of one trying to kill the other for the third time over, but hopefully things wouldnât come to that if both parties kept up their ends of the deal.
Wheatley: I have a plan.
Chell: You've got a plan?
Wheatley: I have... part of a plan.
Chell: What percentage of a plan?
Wheatley: 12%
Chell watched GLaDOS closely as She spoke, narrowing her eyes in slight confusion. Due to not being around for any of this, it was understandable that she wondered if time had done something to Her programming. Then again, it would explain the tables and equipment now populating this chamber, so maybe there was some truth to it all.
âI can,â Chell muttered, realizing half way through if she should be cautious about admitting that death was something that could indeed affect her, but it didnât take a genius- or in this case, a super computer- to figure that out.
As much as she hated to admit it, that was pretty much the plan she had made. Chell nodded to confirm this, blowing a strand of hair out of her face as she stood back up, picking her bag off the floor as well. Even if she was forced to test again, she was still just as stubborn and resilient as ever.

Chell shook her head in response, not wanting her voice to become a normal occurrence down here anymore than it has to. What could she do with an entire science facility anyways? Avoiding that testing addiction would also be a dissuading factor among many others. When it came down to it, being here was more appealing to Chell than being viewed as some sort of secretive witch by the one town that was safe for a consider stretch of kilometers around the shed she had emerged from. Robots calling her names behind her back (or to her face usually) wasnât anywhere near as bothersome as when human do it. That and robots were mostly predictable based on their personalities theyâre programmed with- humans arenât.
Pushing her lips into a tight line, Chell raised her head again to stare into GLaDOSâs glowing orange optic center.Â
âI donât know where else to go,â Chell finally admitted, feeling a tug at her chest like she had done something wrong by speaking down here. She didnât elaborate further, eye contact not faltering as she waited for a response.
