I know few people nowadays care about internet privacy. They didn't by the time I was in high school either, everyone thought I was paranoid even before Facebook got big and popularized the idea of sharing everything about yourself or else. But you don't know why someone might not want to give out information. Don't assume just because they don't tell you everything about themselves means they're hiding something or doing something inappropriate. Plus, even if people DO tell you things, they could easily be lying. Including about their age. You NEVER really know who you're talking to online unless you know them in person. It's actually better to be on the safe side and keep things private than overshare and possibly get assaulted, killed, etc. This goes for kids AND adults of any gender. Yes it's a good idea to know the approx age of the person you're dealing with sometimes (though I've had RP partners who later told me they were in high school who were always the ones starting strange NSFW RPs with ME while I was the one trying to keep things PG or PG-13.) And I can understand wanting to curate one's experience. You decide who you interact with and who not. But don't pressure someone into sharing more information about themselves than they're comfortable giving out to you. And don't assume people who play things closer to the vest than you do are up to something. They COULD be. Or they could just be very careful about what they give out online.

Plus, In MY experience as an adult online who grew up in the "Don't give out private info on the internet" era of playing things safe, it's often the ones that are far too eager to give out their age or other info and PARTICULARLY those that pressure/manipulate you into giving out yours that turn out to be the creeps rather than the ones who keep things close to the vest. Most of the creeps I've run into told me an exact age when asked, some of them getting quite upset/mean or trying to push me into telling them mine despite me telling them I wasn't comfortable giving out more than I gave out.
