I would say to openly express how you feel about her (or him). I never told Lily my harbored affections, and I spent the next near two decades chastising myself for that decision.

Do I think it would have changed things? Not likely; Lily would probably have never returned my feelings. Still, I could have saved myself a lot of unnecessary grief by being open and honest with her before she died.

The needless suffering I experienced as a result I wouldn’t wish on anyone. So, be open and honest.

I have no regrets with how my life turned out, though, because I discovered in the process to whom my heart truly belongs: Hermione.
