This may seem distasteful to western minds indoctrinated on a steady diet of endless pluralism and the irrational mulitiplicity of equalities that now exists in Western Europe and the USA, but what China is doing is preserving its values and culture from a group that would surely stomp out Chinese Han culture if given half a chance.
Getting one’s hair cut off is hardly a painful process, and if the poster has a problem with the Chinese making a buck, then perhaps he or she shouldn’t purchase wigs on Amazon or at Walmart.
As for the claim of Uighurs as victims, go visit Saudi Arabia, a country whose citizens practice a similar form of Islam as the Uighers. Where are the churches and synagogues of past times? They have all been razed to the ground. Where are the great representative paintings and wall murals? All destroyed by the Muslims. What about the foreigners who now live in this Wahabbist paradise in towns like Abqaiq and Dhahran in the Eastern Province of KSA? Are they free to practice their religion in a Christian place of worship? Can Western atheists distribute pamphlets decrying the existence of God? Of course, they cannot. The Muslims in power do not allow it.
The Uigher, in the eyes of neo-liberalist indoctrinated westerners, are looked upon as a “pure and innocent” minority, but if this minority grows into a region of 20 to 50 million people, they will surely demand that no foreign institutions, religious buildings, and non-Muslim artwork exist on their holy Muslim land. In other words, they would behave exactly as Saudi Arabia does to the idea of having Christian churches or Chinese temples in KSA; it is simply not permitted.
And there is nothing wrong with wanting to preserve the values and customs of a people. It is a matter of power and dominance and the determination to persevere.
As for those wanting to help the Uighur, have any Muslim nations proposed resettlement of this Chinese minority to friendly Muslim lands? I have heard no invitations as of yet.
Or what about Europe and the USA getting involved like they did for the Jews after WW2, and apportion someone else’s land, lets say a swath of land near the Red Sea occupied by Muslims, Christians, and Jews, and declare that this land is of the Jews! Now, that really is an exercise of power, dominance, and the determination to persevere…just like the Chinese!
