Midsummer eve: My experience of midsummer comes from Finnish perspective, which may differ slightly from other Nordic countries. Midsummer eve is the day of midsummer celebration and the longest day of the year, often referred to nightless night as sun typically doesn’t set. Midsummer eve in folk religion is thought of being ripe for magic! Midsummer spells: Midsummer spells are quite common custom still, and there’s multiple of them (I’ve drawn couple of them before too). Usually they are amorous in nature, and more often than not one is supposed to be naked to perform them correctly. There’s two of them referred to here: 1. if you tie a flower crown with nine straws and sleep with it under your pillow, you’ll be visited by your future spouse 2. If you run from sauna through rye field ditches, you’ll meet your future spouse in the ninth rye field. Wreg is the type of knight who will not admit believing in spells (-especially as they are deemed paganism) yet does indulge in midsummer celebration in private as he is romantic at heart! And little extra lore: Kauno is a Finnish romanticism era name, it’s very poetic way of spelling ‘beautiful’. I know the name is not from Middle Ages, yet I care not….
