#I remember someone saying once that they hated this scene#because Jack was being really unsympathetic and ordering Sam to get back on her feet#and I was like#uhā¦how did you get that from this scene?#Jack is the opposite of commanding here#he pauses and just studies her for a minute#then ASKS her if she wants to get up#which to me sounds like heās about to offer to assist her#and she doesnāt snap into good little subordinate mode and immediately yessir him#she gives him an honest answer and tells him she needs a minute#because she knows this is her good friend asking her not her CO#and Jack immediately sits down and offers her physical support#can you imagine though#Jack probably wanted desperately to grab onto Sam and not let go#but not only is he her CO sheās dating Pete now#UGH these two and the endless feels (via bethanyactually)
Iād also add that Sam hates to appear vulnerable and that Jack just does not know what she needs from him right away - the friend or the CO. Thatās why he gauges her reaction so closely at first. As Hammond once pointed out, Sam is like her father in that sheās always too concerned about appearing the strong soldier, and Jack has always respected that. Like in Desperate Measures, where instead of treating her like a victim, he gives her a sense of control back. Or in Heroes, where he also gives her time to pull herself together before he drops the formalities and pulls her into an embrace. Jack is always so concerned with giving Sam what she needs, as opposed to what he might need. Itās one of the many things I love about them.
