Like I get why some people are upset about the Lestat backstory being just quick flashbacks rather than the majority of the episode like in s1 and s2 (the wolfkiller scene is my favorite part of the book) but at the same time we get an entirely new Louis storyline and we get to see how Lestat’s past is directly affecting how he acts in the present, so I don’t really care. At the end of the day, we’ve only seen two episodes so far and they’re both incredibly thematically rich and well-produced!

Also, not all that much happens in the book? Like there are certainly many memorable scenes but you also get a lot of 1) philosophical Lestat monologue or dialogue, esp with Nicki and 2) stories told to Lestat by Armand and Marius that don’t need to be told in detail for the plot. If we lingered in some of these scenes for too long they’d be unbearable in TV form. Like do u really want to be in the monastery with baby Lestat for a significant portion of the episode when u could be watching Lestat beef with the band or Louis and Daniel sharing father/daughter feelings? I personally would rather watch a good, well-paced show than a thorough adaptation.
