why I feel this on molecular level
this year:
you will find someone that feels like home
you will learn how to love yourself more
you will heal from things that make you sad or anxious
you will reach goals that seem scary and unrealistic to you right now
you will see life in a much softer or warmer light
you will look back on the last day of 2019 and feel very proud of yourself
Just because you have a lot of love to give doesnât mean you should give it to someone that doesnât deserve it.

How to Fix your Sleep Schedule
Weâve all been there. Youâve been pushing back your bedtime for an entire week and now you feel exhausted and you donât think you can function as well as you normally could. You just want to get enough sleep again, but how?
Make small changes
Itâs a lot easier to push back your bedtime than to push it forwardâbut itâs not impossible. You just have to take it step by step. Go to sleep 15-30 minutes earlier every night until you reach your desired bedtime. You could try going to sleep much earlier than your regular time, but according that doesnât usually work out. If youâre waking up later than you want to, you might also want to try waking up 15 minutes earlier each morning until you get up at the desired time.
I remember there was a week this semester when I went to sleep at 1am for several days in a row (I usually sleep at 11). I was sleep deprived and exhausted and I tried to sleep at 8 to catch up on lost sleep, but I couldnât. I just laid in my bed for an hour until I gave up trying to sleep and decided to work on some homework until I felt sleepy again. What I shouldâve done was go to bed 15 minutes earlier each night until I could go to sleep at 11 again.
Adjust exposure to sunlight
Exposure to adequate amounts of sunlight is key to helping our bodies maintain their circadian rhythm, which is the process that regulates our energy levels during the day and tells us when to be awake and when to go to sleep. Sunlight helps our body produce optimal levels of melatonin, a hormone that makes us feel sleepy at night. Studies have shown that people get better quality sleep in the summer because there is a greater exposure to light.
That being said, you should expose yourself to more light during the day to get better sleep at night. This might mean waking up earlier so you donât miss hours of sunlight in the morning.
At night, you should reduce your exposure to any sort of light - both natural and artificial - so that your body knows itâs time to not be awake. I personally turn down the lights (and only have my fairy lights on) after 10:30 pm. When youâre trying to get back into your desired sleep schedule, you could aim to turn down the lights 30 minutes before your desired bedtime for that day.
Donât eat too close to bedtime
You should wait 2 - 3 hours between dinner/your last meal and bedtime. I would talk about how studies show that eating too close to bedtime can possibly damage your health, e.g. causing reflux when youâre lying down, but thatâs all been said before. The only thing Iâd like to reiterate is that you sleep better when you wait after you eat. But as for my own logic on why you shouldnât go to sleep when youâre fullâŚ
When you wait a few hours after youâve had your last meal, before you go to bed, you wonât go to bed full, meaning that in the morning, youâre likely to be hungry. I donât know about you, but I canât go back to sleep when Iâm, like, starving, so being hungry when I wake up causes me to resist sleeping in.
Donât sleep in
You would think that sleeping in is, in fact, good for catching up on sleep. In reality, it doesnât make you stop sleeping late, since youâd probably still spend the same amount of time awake. Instead, once you wake up, you should stay up, and donât go back to sleep. Youâre likely to get sleepy at an earlier time, and this will help you push forward your bedtime.
Resist napping
Resisting naps also has a similar logic to not sleeping in. If you take a nap, youâll feel more energetic and night, and you might not be able to fall asleep as soon as you wanted to. If you resist taking a nap, however, youâll be more tired at night, and youâll fall asleep more easily.
Be strict with yourself
Finally, the key to having a good, consistent sleep schedule is to be strict with yourself. Donât let yourself stay up for just 5 more minutes because you still have a âsmallâ task to take care of. When itâs time to end the day, end the day.
Maybe itâs hard for you to be strict with yourself since you canât justify going to sleep over completing whatever task or responsibility you have left. Well, hereâs my logic:
You could stay up 5 more minutes and risk extending that to a few hours or so in attempt to finish something. Thereâs no guarantee that youâll finish it, and you might just lose all those precious hours of sleep for nothing, since youâll wake up in the morning tired and unable to effectively do the task you wanted to do; or
You could stop everything youâre doing and sleep on it. You wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and clear-headed and ready to tackle on your tasks for the day. You find a new way to think about the task you were stuck on, and you finally solve it in less than half an hour.
I do realize that this only applies if the task isnât super urgent. Letâs say you have a project due 11:59 PM and youâre rushing to finish that. In this case, the core problem is probably something else: an inability to manage your time, or procrastination. If thatâs the case, you might want to check out my posts on how to beat procrastination and how to create an efficient (revision) schedule. The latter post is tailored for exam preparation, but the main ideas are the same for general scheduling (thereâs a recap at the bottom if you just want to know the main ideas).
Additionally, you might wanna check out my post on my night routine.
And thatâs all I have for you today! Hope this was helpful, and if you have any questions, feel free to drop me an ask or message me. Have an awesome day :)
âI feel like a failure because Iâm struggling to become something and I donât even know what it is.â

Friendly reminder: when people say âas long as you tried your bestâ it doesnât mean âthe best you could possibly have done everâ it means âthe best you were capable of at the time.â Sometimes âtrying your bestâ is just getting out of bed in the morning. Just because you werenât working yourself to the bone doesnât mean you werenât trying your best.Â
I know the future is scary but you will find your way.

little things iâve learned:
one: pay attention to the music youâre relating to. sometimes itâs a clear indicator that something is wrong. other times, itâs an indicator that something is very, very right. when the latter happens, pay extra close attention.
two: true control is subtle, not obsessive. you may not even know that you have it when you do. people who are in control do not question it. they just are.
three: never pass up the opportunity to stick the tips of your fingers out the window of a moving car. feel the wind carry you to the sound of your favorite songs. this is a reminder that youâre alive.
four: thoughts donât have to mean anything. you can just let them be there.
five: notice when youâre struggling and allow yourself some leeway when you do. however, learn the difference between giving yourself leeway and enabling your struggle.Â
six: you cannot build self-love from a foundation of self-hatred. first, work toward self-acceptance. love will follow.
seven: do not love others simply because they love you back. do not expend your love on people who wonât love you back.Â
eight: donât forget to stop and look around. take a moment a day to stop doing and just be. the mindfulness hype isnât overrated. thereâs a reason for it.
nine: setting limits and saying no will not end any relationship worth keeping.Â
ten: friendships built on moments of competitive misery are not healthy. if you find that youâre having the urge to constantly showcase your misery around someone, take that as a red flag. sadness is not a competition you want to win.
eleven: recovery is not about being happy. some days you will feel bored and flat. but these days are still better than those you built around destroying yourself. these days are still victories. recovery is about being alive.
twelve: when youâve built an identity around being sad, the concept of happiness may scare you. giving that sadness up will strip you of most everything and leave you feeling empty. embrace this emptiness and fill it up with exploration. youâll find that itâs worth it.
thirteen:Â you will not come out of your coldest days the same as you were going into them. this is not a bad thing. someday, youâll be warm enough to feel the sun on your face again.
OH MY GOD whyyyy did no one tell me youâre supposed to send thank-yous after interviews?? Why would I do that???
âThank you for this incredibly stressful 30 minutes that I have had to re-structure my entire day around and which will give me anxiety poos for the next 24 hours.â
I HATE ETIQUETTE ITâS THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE THING FOR ME TO LEARN WITHOUT SOMEONE DIRECTLY TELLING ME THIS SHIT
NO ONE TOLD YOU???? WTF! I HAVE FAILED YOU. Also: Dear ______: Thank you so much for the opportunity to sit down with you (&________) to discuss the [insert job position]. I am grateful to be considered for the position. I think I will be a great fit at [company name], especially given my experience in __________. [insert possible reference to something you talked about, something that excited you.] I look forward to hearing from you [and if you are feeling super confident: and working together in the future]. Sincerely, @mellivorinae
THIS IS A LIFESAVING TEMPLATE
YOU ARE WELCOME
My brother got a really great paid internship one summer. The guy who hired him said the deciding factor was the professional thank you letter my brother sent after the interview.
should it be an email? or like a physical letter?
email, you want to send it within a few hours at max after the interview if you can so itâs fresh in their mind who you are.Â
Confirmed! I interviewed for a job right after arriving in NY. The interview went incredibly well, and I went home and immediately wrote a thank you letter and put it in the mail. I had a super good feeling about this interview.
I didnât get the job.
However, a few weeks later, I was called in to interview with another editor in the same company, and I did get that job. I found out later from the initial editor (the one who didnât hire me) that he had planned to offer me the job, but since I didnât follow up with a thank you letter, he assumed I didnât really want it. He offered the job to another contenderâbut when he got my letter in the mail shortly after the offer had already been made, he went to HR and gave me a glowing recommendation. It was based on that recommendation that I got called in for the second interview.
So: send an email thank you immediately (same day!) after the interview. If youâre feeling extra, go ahead and send a written one too. OR go immediately to a coffee shop, write the letter, and return to the office and give it to the secretary.
Either way, those letters are important.
Pro tip: If you really want HR to develop a personal interest in your application, publicly thank them on linkedin. Just make a short post telling your network about how X recruiter really went above and beyond to make you feel welcome, or about how be accommodating and professional they were, or whatever. Make sure to use the mention feature so theyâll get a notification and see it.Â
Flattery will get you everywhere⌠and public flattery that might make its way back to their manager, doubly so.
Obligatory plug for one of FreePrintable.netâs sites: ThankYouLetter.ws. They have a whole section with interview thank you letter templates, and a page with specific tips for interview thank you letters. (There are also tons of other letter templates if you browse around a bit.)
As a former professional recruiter and recruiting manager, I confirm, especially for entry-level positions, where you are competing with oodles of people. This little thing can make a difference. Also the fact that, maybe, you took time to google the âinterview etiquetteâ.
SIGNAL BOOST
The post-interview thank you notes can be a good way to recover in case you got asked a question whose answer you either didnât know or felt was super weak. So if you follow the above given template, jump in with something like âupon further thought to your question, hereâs my revised answer.âÂ
But yeah always send a thank you note after an interview. Itâs a small thing but it makes a hell of a difference. And def send thank you messages to any recruiters who may have helped. And also after you get the job. Small things like that really go a long long way.
How do you fall back in love with life?
clean your room. Â clean space, uncluttered space, space that doesnât have miasma clinging to it can work wonders. Â clean the dishes. Â sweep. Â take out the trash. Â peel the clothes off the floor and wash them, and then actually fold/hang them. Â take a long shower. Â scrub behind your knees. Â brush your teeth. Â (this can be utterly exhausting, but try to get it done in a day, if you can. Â the end result is worth it.)
pull out your notebook. Â it doesnât need to be a new notebook, but preferably one that you donât usually write in, or that you havenât touched in a while. Â fuck moleskins. Â the yellow legal pad will work fine. Â sit in your room, or in the park, or in the library, and write a list. Â count clouds. Â describe all the colors that you see, and note patterns that arise. Â sketch the cracks in the walls. Â note the shape light makes when it enters a space. Â talk about what the air tastes like, smells like. Â what sounds are there? Â even the white nose, break that down: air planes, fans, cicadas, anything. Â remind yourself that you are sitting in the middle of a space brimming with detail. Â remind yourself that you are not in nothingness and emptiness. Â your world is fathomless. Â it has potential.
drink cold water and try to eat something that isnât processed. Â it does not need to be fancy. Â buy yourself an apple with the change between your couch cushions. Â eat it outside. Â if youâre someone who walks, walk somewhere afterwards, just to stretch your legs. Â take your fucking meds. Â remember that its a good thing that you are inside your body. Â your body is a fantastic and endlessly intricate machine, and even though society has smacked a bunch of poisonous ideas on it, that doesnât change its inherent worth and splendor. Â take care of it.
read a novel. Â underline your favorite lines, and write phrases that twist your heart inside your chest on the back of your hand with an ink pen. Â read a novel like itâs poetry. Â read poetry, something decadent but unpretentious. Â watch a movie you havenât seen before. Â if there are free art galleries near you, walk through one. Â take your time. Â let yourself bask. Â if there are patterns in what makes your soul ache, write those patterns down â marbles arches or soot crumbling bricks or dandelions or descriptions of dresses or whatever it is, write them down.
your chosen family is important. Â remember, they picked you as much as you picked them. Â the love has no obligation. Â it is given freely and it is given from a place of compassion. Â you are not a burden. Â if you need to breathe, take a minute by yourself and just exist, but remember to go back to your people. Â when they need you, listen and be gracious. Â always be gracious. Â the universe sometimes remembers things like that.
listen to new music. Â link jump on youtube or related artist jump on spotify or ask the chap beside you in the cafe what their favorite band is, and listen to that. Â listen to something that you donât usually listen to. Â we tend to tie up a lot of memory with music. Â we are falling in love again. Â the soundtrack needs to be specific to that. Â
allow yourself to indulge in romantics. Â press flowers in old books. Â play movies with subtitles and mouth the words. Â dance in your room. Â wear something that makes you feel good, even if you wouldnât wear it in public. Â write your chosen family letters, even if you hand deliver them. Â write poetry, even awful poetry. Â revel in its awfulness. Â eat dark chocolate and when your chosen family want to go out, try to go out with them sometimes, even if its just to the market. Â
a gentle reminder that you did well this year. you met new people, learned new things and felt new feelings. you did so many things that made you scared. you picked yourself up off the floor after feeling completely defeated or heartbroken. there were some really tough nights but you survived them all. you made people happy just by existing. you accepted many goodbyes but the serendipitous meetings made up for them. it was your own hard work that paid off but you always downplay it or compare yourself to others. thatâs not fair on yourself. youâve come so far from the first day of this year. you have more wisdom and strength now. yes, other people seem more âsuccessfulâ but does that even matter? please donât think so lowly of yourself to only think about your failures. 2018 was your year of growth. I hope you take a moment to be kind to yourself, and believe that 2019 will be even better.
my toxic trait : i hurt in silence and pray that someone loves me enough to notice iâm not being myself
