I got my first major dose of harassment today. And I want to tell everyone about it. This is unacceptable. This is threatening. This is disgusting. This is NOT OKAY. I am in rage. I am a single 19 year old female in college who likes sex. I am not in a relationship. I was not exclusive with this guy. He implied I should be a prostitute. He called me disgusting and gross. And it’s not okay. We need to talk about this. This is a form of harassment, emotional abuse. I am not ashamed of my sexuality and I’m so glad I’m angry about this. Many people out there wouldn’t take it this way. They would blame themselves, shame themselves. Victim blaming where the victim blames themselves for others terrible actions. I am starting a campaign to talk about this because it’s something that needs to be discussed. This is not acceptable behavior. People should be free to have sex, or to not have sex, and not be judged by people who have no goddamn business in your choices. Safe, consensual sex IS NEVER A BAD THING. I will be posting on social media and around my community to get the word out. I am hoping to get submissions anonymously from ANYONE who has gone through any form of “shaming” for their own personal choices regarding sex. I want your voices heard because they deserve to be heard. This harassment can happen to anyone of any sexuality, race, ethnicity, gender, etc. I want my people heard so they know they aren’t alone, I want you to know it’s never your fault. I want you to know that this can change. I want to fight for you, for myself. I don’t want this to happen. Please help me in this campaign. Any and all stories are welcome. 1 in 4 women in college are sexually assaulted each year. Harassment included. Let’s change those numbers.
