Let me tell you a GW story that still stays with me. To this day, I remember taking Professor Benton-Short's Human Geography class my freshman year. Everyone told me she was tough. I still remember the first draft of an assignment she handed back to me. It had more red ink and comments than I could count. I felt like I couldn't finish it; I failed. But then, I reloaded. She wanted me to do better. She wanted me to push myself to new standards. I went every week to her office to ask questions and in the end, that project ended up being one of my best pieces. I ended up taking 4 classes with her throughout my time at GW. I consider her a mentor; someone I respect wholeheartedly. I thank her for lighting the passion I have for Geography, for people and for urban studies. She was my biggest cheerleader and the one who pushed me to try new things like GIS. Thank you Professor Benton-Short. I will never forget what you did for me. It's an honor to help the department that took me in and made me feel like family. Thanks for the note and card! :) P.S.
