This is by far the most interesting information visualization that I have seen. It was designed by Ewa Tuteja.
Reasons: 1. transparent, relevant, and true - I find the information is very honest. It shows many aspects of a country without being bias
2. Very interactive - it shows information when the mouse hovers over it. It does not reveal the whole information unless you click it. You should pay attention to the legend before looking into the web index.
3. Good use of symbols - By using trees, it is well understood the growth, which in this context, they are talking about maturity. The branches well explain the other information in specific issues for each country. For the overall score, viewers are able to see them clearly through the circle.
3. Minimalism - It presents most of it information through images and shapes. It also categorize each elements in a simple way, not too many words, complicated or colorful.
4. Fairly ergonomic - It is easy to look using different devices, like desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphones. If you drag with 2 fingers, it enlarges or reduces. If clicked and drag, it moves the graph. However, it still have some slight bug when sometimes it cannot zoom out completely, otherwise it is a great design.
Wayfinding - Directions from a friend
Hi, today I'm going to show you what I did for my wayfinding journal assignment. So, I basically map out how my friend actually travel to school during her high school years. So below is supposed to be to actual distance between her house (A) and her school (B). As you can see, the path actually breaks off, because she travels to school daily with a LRT (light rail transit). FYI, this is the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.
Below is the route to the LRT
And that's the map that she pointed out, and directions to go.
It's a bit different from how google map points out. She was so used to the routine for using that route, but it makes not much difference.
So right now, we've traveled for quite some distance. From LRT station, we move out to the school.
Down here is the map that she described to me. She said I should just follow the path ahead then I should be able to see the building of her school.
It's really different from the the actual map, because she often use the backdoor of a neighboring school to class.
I really had some fun time sketching and merging both maps. Somehow I realize it easier to follow landmarks to travel. Certainly I think Google can do a better job in improving their maps.
