so in freshman year i wrote an essay about how faulty logic leads to incorrect conclusions, and the example i gave went something along the lines of

if you cut a triangle in half, you have two triangles. therefore, triangles cannot be destroyed, only created from other triangles. if triangles cannot be destroyed and are created from other triangles, that means that triangles are a universal constant, always there no matter what time or era it is. that means that triangles are infinitely old. age equals wisdom, so triangles are infinitely wise, which implies that they contain all the answers to every question asked and unasked by mankind. your mind controls your hand when it makes a line across a piece of paper, so if you draw a line while thinking about the opposite of what your question is, you will have a line representing the negative form of that question. a negative plus a positive of the same number always equals 0, so if you make your negative question line go through a triangle, there will be a blank space where the answer is. if we can learn to read that blank space, we will know the answers to every known and unknown question in the universe.

it was a bullshit theory, obviously, but some of the students somehow took it seriously, and they started a "secret triangle religion". if you go down the fine arts hall you can see where someone carved the word "triangle" into one of the lockers.

JUST LAST WEEK someone walked up to me, made a triangle shape with their hands, and said "in triangle we trust".

they called it triangulism or something.

high school kids are interesting.
