If you were alive today, what would you say #Madiba? “Courage is not the absence of fear-it’s inspiring others to move beyond it.” . . Fear has been weaponised since time began. If we weren’t afraid, how would things be different? Would we vote differently? Be more accepting of other’s values and differences? If there was no fear, would there be racism, misogyny, homophobia? Those who are in a position of privilege are taught to be afraid of those who challenge that. Equality means a toppling of power for some and I believe it’s fear that drives the resistance to allowing everyone the same rights, the same basic human rights. . . Look past the angry words, fake news and extremism and often it comes from a place of fear. Travel further, dig deeper, embrace those who are different. Get educated. When I travel I float. Discarding life’s heaviness like a cloak, flung across the grey city I’ve left behind. It’s still mine, but it’s at that party, left in a haze of gin.
