Happy birthday to Yhwach 2.0
Somehow he's not my fav and I hate him
Cute Yhwach as Gaul chief Abraracourcix, Uryu and Jugram carrying him on shield, then dropping him bc of course they did!
Loved your cute Yhwach >Ο<, he kinda looked like character from Asterix to me, so that's why.
I have never heard of this show before, but you're a genius. Tyπ±π«Άπ«Άπ

Sukuna sketches
Lilo and Stitch presenting an accurate representation of Hawaiians perspective on luaus held by tourists.Β
#whatβs sad about this is that this is actually what Hawaiians had to do when the western culture took over #a luau was a sacred practice #until the westerners took the concept and had the audacity to change it into a time to stuff your face with food and put on grass skirts and coconut bras and dance the hula #and when they had these events, they didnβt even let actual Hawaiian people in #so to make money to take care of themselves, the Hawaiians were hired to work in these disgraceful events to clean up after the tourists like slaves only to make less than a buck #so good job disney for doing your fucking research and educating these people #sadly, this still goes on even until today and it makes me sick
βgood job disneyβ my ass, good job CHRIS SANDERS
Letβs not credit just Chris Sanders for this. This happened because they cast actual Hawaiian Actors like Tia Carrere and Jason Scott Lee to play Hawaiian characters, and allowed the actors to have input into writing the charactersβ lines.Β
This sort of authenticity comes from accuracy and authenticity in casting choices. The fact that Chris Sanders as direct/writer facilitated that does not mean he gets credit for the actorsβ experience.
This is why diversity and representation in media matters.
Dude as a hawaiian, this is like straight up what my life as a kid was. My mom worked at those fakey luaus full time to pay rent. My mom is someone who is absolutely passionate and proud about being a hawaiian, living and teaching the ways our ancestors lived and taught. See, we Hawaiians, we live by the way of aloha. And not by the way of βhelloβ βgoodbyeβ, let me educate you. As Pono Shim, CEO and President of Enterprise Honolulu, the Oahu Economic Development Board, states absolutely perfectly βaloha is to be in the presence of life, to share the essence of oneβs being with openness, honesty, and humility. It is a way of being, a way of behaving, a way of life. It is a commitment to accepting others and giving dignity to who they are and what they have to offer.β Aloha is more than hello and goodbye. Think of aloha as an abbreviation. Akahai: meaning kindness Lokahi: meaning unity OluβOluβ: meaning agreeableness Haβahaβa: meaning humility Ahonui: meaning patience This is something we all need to live by, seriously, we all should
the dropped sub-plot was that lilo hated tourists, which is why she goes around taking pictures of them like they were attractions instead of people; like how they took photos of locals
similarly there was a deleted scene where she scares tourists off of a beach by sounding a false tsunami siren to watch them run screaming deeper in the lore that kid thats a prick to her, mertyle, is the daughter of the person who runs the megamart and crushed a lot of other local businesses- when they have to do a hula to tell a story mertyle actually uses it to describe the low prices, where lilo does a hula about a traditional creation myth that was important to her mother. you may notice both lilo and nani are on first name basis with both the coffee shop owner and the fruitseller, there is big disparity between the locals and foreign interest businesses relegating them to just be tourist industry
friendly reminder that lilo & stitch is indisputably the best disney film
I think I have to join in the sentiment that knowing this deep aspect of the movie in culture, I love this movie even more. I love culture, I love history and I love people of different backgrounds that offer such rich experiences.
one of the main reasons why this movie will be my favorite of all time!!
Yes Lilo & Stitch is one of the best examples I can find of an excellent female character of color in Lilo, authentic representation in casting for Nani and David and in showing the culture of a character without it feeling like a token politically Β correct character. Lilo has great 3 decisional depth and her culture influences who she is as that character and her decisions. The creators of the movie were very careful to show the Hawaiian culture respect by filming real hula and drawing exactly what they saw. They also asked Tia and Jason for input on Hawaiian lingo to give the dialogue a natural richness and their efforts clearly paid off.It is always best to have someone who is of a particular culture etc have involvement in a writing project if the culture is part of a story. I just wish they had gone a bit deeper into the meaning of the aloha spirit in the last movieΒ βLeroy & Stitchβ.btw Lilo & Stitch The Series now airs on Disney XD every weekday.Β
The original Lilo and stitch actually has like rly important commentary on how native Hawaiians are being profited off of and treated as attractions rather than actual people. It also talks about how their culture has been monetized like Nani working at the fake luau which tried to mimic an actual tradition amongst indigenous Hawaiians that was a part of native religion. Lilo took pics of tourists because to her, while they treated her as an attraction, it was her way of turning the tables (plus it's pretty obvi that in the animated one she had undiagnosed autism)
The literal reason as to why there are more white ppl in Hawaii than indigenous Hawaiians is because white people (and others) view Hawaii as paradise and buy property there, eventually not leaving room for the people who were literally there first
In the live action they literally sugarcoated it to the MAX. they made Lilo happy about being sent to the AMERICAN FOSTER SYSTEM (yes, the one known for multiple forms of child abuse), they made jumba a psychopath who gave a whole speech about how empathy is weakness while wrecking the house instead of making him goofy and well meaning like in the animated one, and they DIDNT EVEN GIVE PLEAKLEY HIS DRAG

OH IT'S A NOSE
That took me way too long. Staring at the unsettling singular eye.
This is actually how polyphemus looks guys trust
We as a society should actually normalize drawing cat girls with realistic bodies and appearances like yess I want to see a buff military girl with cat ears or a chubby average looking cat girl π» maybe even a businesswoman or a grandma idk but either way they would look FABULOUS compared to the ones in animanga that look like TWELVE YEAR OLDS π
