Honestly, I have very little interest in assigning Mikami's father a large amount of headcanoned importance when Mikami's one of the few characters out there who has mother issues and not father issues, haha... Let people be fucked up by mom stuff for once!!

So this answer is probably not going to be what you're looking for and also pretty boring... but let's talk about Mikami's backstory and his absentee dad anyway!!

Mikami is the only character in Death Note who receives an elaborate backstory explaining why he is the way he is. It covers pretty much his entire life, so we can be certain that all the beats the story regards as important to his development are in there. To insert something that eclipses these beats in meaning feels like straying too much from the text to me. So my personal approach is basically "any headcanon I make can't be more emotionally relevant to Mikami than the details that are shown on panel."

The anime (not the manga) vaguely implies that Mikami's father is dead since his mother still wears her wedding ring - which she wouldn't do if there had been a divorce. Technically I suppose this would also apply if his father was in jail and they were still in a relationship, but I consider it unlikely for the reason above.

Wherever Mikami's father is, the personal details of that man are not relevant to Mikami's emotional development. He is merely a blank space. The way he contributes to Mikami's life is complete absence.

I've talked about it in my big Mikami analysis but single mothers have an extremely bad standing in Japan. Ms Mikami is no exception. They are implied to be pretty poor (see tiny Mikami's oversized clothing) and in my opinion this panel...

... implies that Mikami was somewhat 'raised by TV' as can often be the case with a child who's parent is largely absent because they are working long hours in order to financially support their child. Just look at the way 'his surroundings' are all media images in this!

Mikami's initial moral standard develops because of the amount of media he consumes - and the fact that he consumes this much media is precisely because he doesn't have a father, sending his mother to work a lot and leave him alone a lot.
