stop letting miserable people on the internet convince you that you must have a concrete, well-constructed opinion on everything that has ever existed.
everybody say thank you Marcus Aurelius
âIt's not fair.â The little ghost kicks impotently at the chalk lines around her feet. âI ain't done nothing.â
I nod, setting down my chalk and spellbook. âIt does sound like there might have been a bit of a misunderstanding.â
âShe took against me, that's what happened,â the dead girl says with a scowl. She looks about fourteen, round faced and spotty, with whisps of brown hair peaking out from under her mob-cap. Her face and her crossed arms have a tell-tale bluish tinge to them. A cholera death.
âI been here for don't know how long and never gave any trouble. Nobody ever complained about me 'till her.â
âŚwell, that's not strictly true.
Number 12, Barclay Street has been attracting rumours of haunting since the mid nineteenth century.
Sounds of faint singing and crying in the corridors at night. Cold spots. Doors that open and close by themselves. Animals acting strangely. Harmless, mid to low-level stuff, typical for a bored teenage poltergeist.
Still, pointing that out isn't likely to achieve much, and certainly the most recent complaints of blood running down the walls, screams in the dark and paralysing night terrors seem distinctly out of character.
The ghost toes the chalk again, more tentatively this time. It stays resolutely unbroken.
She could get out if she wanted to. I'm not one of those assholes who brings out their full arsenal of wards and sigils for a first meeting with a level 2 spectre. The summoning circle will keep her in one place for as long as I need her to talk, but it wouldn't hold for a moment if she really fought against it.
I take it as a good sign that she's still here. Pouting or not, she's clearly willing to work with me.
âNone of the others could do this,â she says. âNone of 'em even saw me.â She looks up. âAre you here to exise me?â
âExorcise,â I say instinctively, and curse myself when she flinches. âSorry, no, no! I don't exorcise people from their homes without good reason, not if they're happy where they are.â
âI was happy. Till she started calling in all them ghost hunters.â
Mrs Delaney had been quite persistent in her attempts to 'fix' her haunted house. Most of the people she found were charlatans, of course, but I'd still arranged an appointment as fast as I could once word reached me. It wouldn't have been long before she happened upon somebody with Talent, and unfortunately not everybody in this field knows how to behave like a professional.
âI think we might be able to help each other,â I say, careful to keep my voice calm and level.
âDon't see how. Not unless you can exorcise Her.â
âNot quite what I had in mind.â I pull out my phone and scroll through my photos. âYou say that you're not the cause of the most recent incidents of paranormal activity?â
A pause. The ghost gnaws on her lip. I wait, patiently, keeping my body language open and nonthreatening. âI⌠I knocked her coffee cup over,â she admits at last. âShe was being mean and talking on her telephone, saying I done all these things when I never did! So I decided to show her what I could do if I wanted.â
âHmm.â The ghost eyes me nervously, as if expecting me to pull out a book, bell and candle and banish her on the spot.
âI only tipped it,â she adds. âI didn't break it or nothing!â
âYou shouldn't have touched it at all,â I say sternly. âBut⌠I can appreciate that you were frustrated, so let's say no more about it.â
The ghost looks relieved.
âMy point is,â I continue, âif you weren't the one making blood rain from the ceiling or tormenting people in their sleep, then what was? There's no other ghosts on the property.â I find the picture I was looking for. âYou can get anywhere around the house, right? Including behind the furniture and in the backs of cupboards?â
âYes'm.â
I hold the phone up so that she can see the picture on the screen. âI'm going to let you go free in a moment, and I need you to see if you can find anything that looks like this.â
The ghost wrinkles her forehead. âWhat's that when it's at home?â
âBlack mould,â I say, reaching out a foot to break the binding circle. âAnd I'm pretty sure it's the cause of this haunting.â
Booktok controversy that's broken containment: a writer told one of her friends the concept for a book, and he took that concept and AI-generated a book based on it and then gifted to her like 'there you go, sweetie, you're welcome ;)'
BRO WHAT.
OMG, I'm watching a video about this, and it's even weirder. That wasn't even a friend, it was a rando who saw her tiktok talking about the concept and randomly emails her this AI-generated book. That's even weirder.
And then when she says she doesn't like it, and several NYT BESTSELLING AUTHORS who all happen to be women all explain to him why he's in the wrong, he talks down to them and doubles and triples and quadruples down. But then the moment the woman's husband gets involved, he immediately apologizes to "him and his wife." Just breathtaking levels of misogyny.
He wanted credit SO HARD for doing basically NOTHING. Worse than nothing! He wanted headpats so hard that when she ignored his email he hounded her to respond publicly.
He's like a microcosm of everything that's wrong with people who use AI to generate stories.
He was talking about releasing the shit he generated with the idea he STOLE FROM HER for free if she continued not responding to him, and then acted like she was being insane when she clarified that she didn't respond on purpose đđđ What goes through these people's heads!!!!!!!!!
Something profoundly wrong with this dude and yet he's incapable of noticing.
I donât get it, why someone would do this.

I don't know whether or not this is true, but I'm reblogging this because we live in a world where the third search result when I tried researching the validity of this information was a link to an article about a weight loss product.
The second search result had included the slur "ob*se" in the title of the article.
There are seriously people who tell me fat people aren't oppressed. Meanwhile, trying to find information about how to keep a fat person from drying in a car crash is met with links to products that make dirty money off of how society views my body.
I immediately gave up trying to research this.
The tiktok is correct. Basically it's about arranging your belt so it there is an accident the pressure is in your strongest bones.
"Seatbelt should be across your hips rather than your stomach for everyone, but i think it's more common for fat people to wear seatbelts over the stomach
Pelvic bones are strong and sturdy, and you're going to be MUCH less likely to injure internal organs and such when you suddenly slam into a nylon belt"

I wanted to put both of these reblogs in one reblog chain since this is helpful information. Thank you both for giving more information than fatphobic Google did.
Thanks to everyone who worked on verifying this information.

I feel like I have not done enough to convince others to watch School Spirits.
Like. It's a really clever show. The first season is REALLY CLEVER. The twists and turns the first season take feel earned to me. I felt clever when I guessed what would happen, and delighted when they fooled me.
The premise is that a high school girl, Maddie, wakes up having died in the school boiler room. She is ghost trapped on school grounds, along with a group of other students and at least 1 teacher who have died on school grounds over the life of the school. The problem is, she doesn't remember dying, and there's no body. The other ghosts remember how they died. Their bodies were found. But not Maddie.
So after squirming around about it trying to escape school grounds and flailing about how this isn't right, she gets to business and begins to investigate her own death. She follows her friends and family as they appear at the school. The other ghosts help her. The living cannot see them...... except Maddie is standing beside her best friend, Simon, a few days after she woke up here, looking out the same window as him... and the focus of his eyes go from staring out the window, to staring at her reflection in the window. And he turns, and he sees her.
And that's just in the first episode!!! I can't really go into the whole plot without giving away a lot of it, but there are so many threads woven together, and the characters are all fantastic.
Look at them!!
The two on the left, Yuri and Charley, are dating and also I LOVE their individual arcs so much!! Charley is one of the younger ghosts in the school, having joined in the 90s after dying from anaphylaxis, and he has been stuck there watching the young boy he loved grow up and become a teacher at the school, unable to tell him everything he'd left unsaid. He's clever but also young in a lot of how he acts compared to the others, which is GREAT because even though they're all the same approximate age in looks, some of them have clearly been growing up more over time. Yuri is The Pottery Guy that everyone is convinced is Russian and speaks no English, because he minds his own business in the art room and never acknowledges what anyone says to him as if he understands. He is not Russian, he understands everyone. He just doesn't want to be included in the drama, which is the funniest thing to me when he just starts talking to them normally at one point to get them out of his hair, and IMMEDIATELY gets dragged in ass over teakettle.
I love them Back to the group photo: The boy in green sitting on the floor is Xavier and he was Maddie's bf until she died and found out some stuff, but he takes responsibility for his actions and accepts that she is just a friend now, and a good one. The boy in red next to him is Simon, and he's in love with Maddie and also her best friend, and they would literally die for each other but also she's not interested in him like that as far as I can tell. Maddie is in the middle there, and the boy in grey behind her is Wally, a ghost she falls for that has some great character growth over the course of the seasons, I did NOT really care for him at the start but I would put claws in anyone trying to hurt him now. The girl on the couch beside Maddie is Nicole, Maddie's other best friend, and she goes through some Shit because Simon doesn't tell her about Maddie being dead and Nicole thinks she's just missing and is desperate to find her. The girl behind Nicole is Claire, Maddie's ex best friend who got involved with Xavier before Maddie died, and goes through So Much Shit and becomes Nicole's best friend, helping her start standing up for herself and Being Herself instead of being in Maddie's shadow like she was in S1.
For the group photo again: The girl in black standing beside Claire is Rhonda, another ghost and one of the oldest, who is so sick of being dead and way too traumatized to move on. Sitting in front of her is Quinn, who joins the group after S1 to help solve the riddle of the school after Rhonda yells at them to WAKE UP from the endless looping of a stuck ghost, and they end up falling for Rhonda afterward. And YES Quinn is explicitly nonbinary.
I mean c'mon, look at them please
And basically none of that is really plot, and that's not even all the characters!!! but listen I LOVE the characters. I love them. And the plot is worth not spoiling.
Y'all have trusted my recs before. I rarely rec something unless I'm really sure that others will love it if they give it a chance.
Ever since I got a job as a security guard I canât take heist movies seriously anymore.
Why is that?
Accurate heist movie: The Team is sneaking into a high security facility. An alarm is triggered, they freeze, prepared to knock out whoever responds to the alarm. It takes 40 minutes for someone to respond. When they finally do show up, they shuffle along, annoyed, arms full of 16 bags of pretzels for some reason, and reset the alarm without bothering to check their surroundings. They report that the alarm went off in error. Security control starts a fight about the correct designation of the door. The guard announces that theyâre leaving the alarm key in the alarm because itâs always going off for no reason. No one challenges them on this. They shuffle away, leaving an alarm key and several bags of pretzels behind.
The Team knocks out a security guard and steals their radio. The team mimic can perfectly replicate the knocked out guardâs voice. They get caught because they pronounced the name of the company correctly.
The Team disables an alarm. The only way to do this is to rip it out of the wall and disassemble it until it physically canât make noise anymore. This very loud process is clearly heard by the posted security guard nearby, who rolls their eyes and text their supervisor that the logistics contractors are fooling with the alarms again.
The Team breaks into the facility at night. There they meet a single security guard who is chanting potential names for NPCs in their DnD campaign out loud while they do their patrols. They encounter a fire extinguisher. They pause in their chanting to check that it is properly charged and to apply a sticker that reads, âAnal use onlyâ. This guy is disgustingly good at their job. Thereâs no way around it, theyâre going to catch you. And youâre going to have to deal with the fact that youâve been had by someone who has a supply of stickers that say âAnal use onlyâ and who unironically wanted to name their NPC shopkeep Mammogrammus.
The Team attempts to bribe a security guard. This is its own post but know thereâs no way in hell that would work.
The Team breaks into the high security room and disables all the alarms. Security control sends several guards to investigate why there are no alarms going off.
The Team attempts to break into the high security room but canât because itâs randomly decided not to let anyone at all in today.
The Team steals a keycard with âââââunlimitedâââââ access to the facility and gets caught because the computer system that manages keycards randomly revokes access for no reason.
The Team walks past a security guard in broad daylight wearing T-shirts that say, âWe are here to rob youâ. The security guard does nothing, having seen several people in logistics wearing that exact shirt two days prior.
The Team abandons their high-tech high-concept plans and pull up to the front door in a battered van. Wearing blue jumpsuits or work clothes, they trudge into the lobby carrying bundles of cable and tools, and in a show of class solidarity the security guard just unlocks everything.
A story I once heard from a guy who specialised in security testing for IT. They had been hired to test out the security of the company, and one of the things they were testing was whether they could physically get secure data out of the building.
The guy walked in with a trolley with a wobbly wheel, loaded half a dozen computers onto the trolley so that they were unstable, and walked up to the main security door. At which point, the trolley wobbled and there was an avalanche of computers. The security guard helped him load the computers back onto the trolley and then held the door open for him as he walked out with six computers loaded with company secrets.

Pivotal information I think everyone should know: this was at a thrift store
me remembering i have a name and body and people know me:
der đŤŠemoji wurde nur zu dem zweck eingefĂźhrt, akkurat beschreiben zu kĂśnnen, wie ich mich jedes mal fĂźhle, wenn der name "friedrich merz" fällt
genau so:
Hey can you guys reblog Cheeseburger so he can take a sunbeam nap on lots of blogs. No other reason I just want you guys to see him.
So, Cheeseburger died on November 21st after an unfairly short battle with an unfairly rare cancer that is rarely seen in cats. I only got to spend a month with him after his diagnosis, and losing him has been the greatest heartbreak of my entire life so far. He was my best friend and my soul cat, and he was there for me when I was completely alone, for twelve long years.
I made this transparent PNG the night he died in preparation for one of the many ways I was going to memorialize him--a surface rug in his likeness that I planned on laying directly in the line of his favourite sunbeam. And I uploaded that PNG here, because this is the website where people post their cats.
I was not expecting the reception I got. Many people have pointed out that this post has more reblogs than likes, and how insane that is in 2025 when reblog culture is at an all time low. I didn't even talk about the fact that Burger passed away in the original post, it wasn't a tearjerker reblog bait or anything like that. People just loved Burger that much, in the same way I fell in love with him at first sight. He was such an ugly kitten.
Anyways, it's really special to me that so many people have reblogged my best friend. I made this PNG to memorialize him in a completely different way, and you all wound up doing just that in ways I never even imagined.
Thank you. Wherever he is, I know the sun is shining.

ok sorry to double reblog BUT I just looked him up and he does these fantastic videos where he breaks down HOW he actually mimics the other artistsâ styles. Like for ed Sheeran, he explains how he brings his voice forward in the mouth, while Adam Levine sings in the back of the mouth, stuff like that. Itâs SO COOL, I donât think Iâve ever seen anyone actually break down how to do this sort of thing, as a skill, instead of just treating it like a neat trick they just happen to be good at. https://www.tiktok.com/@justinjmooremusic
Check him out heâs so cool
........... THAT'S where the groan tube singing thing comes from?!??!?!
Itâs a Tree. There was a tree there. Folks cut down a tree, they usually donât pull the roots, itâs like a Whalefall for fungus and burrowing invertebrates. They feast for decades.
Itâs tree roots. I know thatâs not cool and adventurous but I promise you itâs tree roots.
No, that's where they dumped the body of my good friend, Mr. Five by Five. We called him that because he was five feet tall and five feet wide. Perfectly spherical.
