"Man, I'm sorry about all this. I'm really, really sorry." Marcus took in the figure before him with soft eyes. It really was a damn shame that it had come to this, but there was just no stopping it now.  Marcus paced around the room methodically, and while his body went through the motions he had become all-too familiar with, his mind wandered elsewhere. 

"Really, I wish there was something else I could do, I mean it." Marcus walked to the cabinet across the room. He absentmindedly fidgeted with the strings of his hoodie, curling them around his fingers like a snake. Opening the door, he calmly reached for the axe, cringing slightly as he noticed how discolored the edge had become. It had been a busy season, that was for sure.

"It just isn't fair, y'know? To you, I mean. It's just...it's awful." Marcus gripped the axe steadily, and turned back towards the figure in the corner. Kneeling on the ground, the other man was shaking violently, the soft chatter of teeth filling the room. Again, Marcus winced at the sight. This was always the hardest part; or at least it used to be.

"The worst part is, I don't even know your name. That's the real tragedy, y'know? If only I'd gotten to you sooner, at least your family'd get to know what happened. If you have one, that is." Marcus was standing above him now, gazing down at the pitiable scene before him. The rhythmic chattering was fading now, replaced by an amelodic gurgling. It was too late now, far too late. Marcus sighed and brought down the axe with a once-sickening thwack, and the noise stopped.
