what if, and hear me out here, it didn't matter whether a transmisogynistic caricature was "intended" to depict a trans woman. what if we could acknowledge that symbols carry meanings beyond what a creator put in them, and that you cannot divorce them from the society that will read them? what if we recognized that a character exactly resembling the worst stereotypes about a group of people will cause harm to that group no matter whether the text refers to them as a member of that group? what if it didn't fucking matter whether buffalo bill is a "real transsexual" because real transsexuals routinely get accused of being buffalo bills anyways
