Please indulge me while I leave this here for my own posterity because I freaking met Luke Thompson and I honestly still can’t believe it??
First of all, the play was even better than I expected, and w o w is it incredible to see Luke act in person!! He’s so talented, it just makes me even more excited for Benedict’s season!!
He came out while I was recording a vox pop for the show (literally just gushing and nerding about how it aligned with my current research) and started talking with the big group waiting there (in French to some of them!!!)
I was too shy to join the big group, so I waited to the side until the lead actress came out because I wanted to speak to her too. She was so sweet and loved the fact that I was researching issues brought up in the play, and told me and the two other girls near me that the play was written in two weeks (honestly incredible for how good it was!!). She said she would introduce us to the playwright, but she couldn’t find him in the crowd.
While we were talking, I saw Luke go to take pictures with the group, and when no one came up to him at one point, he joked “I won’t be taking pictures by myself!” to encourage them and was so sweet!
Luke went to join his friends while I was still talking to Debbie, so I told her I didn’t want to interrupt him if he was with people he knew. She immediately said “oh no, he’s literally the sweetest, you have to say hi!” And then proceeded to bring me over and introduce me personally, by name (“Luke, this is Jenny, she wanted to meet you!”) 👀👀
