AI is making open source more valuable than ever, but it’s also changing how developers interact with the communities that maintain it. After being quoted in two recent LeadDev articles, I wrote a short reflection on the growing tension between AI-accelerated development and the maintainers who su
A recent family puzzle night featured a puzzle from Fueled Shop, our company’s Pressto Shop-powered merch store. The experience highlighted both the convenience of print-on-demand merchandise and some of its tradeoffs.

I’m pleased to be a founding donor to the Open Source Endowment, a new initiative exploring a community-funded endowment model to sustainably support critical open source infrastructure.
The WordPress community recently announced the Zeel Thakkar Memorial Scholarship to support women from India and Nepal attending major WordPress events like WordCamp Asia. I had the chance to see Zeel contributing during WordPress 6.7 and 6.8 release parties, and was deeply saddened by her passing. I’ve made a donation and hope others will consider supporting this effort as well. Scholarships like this help open the door for future contributors to participate in the global WordPress community.
I recently joined the Crossword podcast for a conversation about open source, WordPress, and what meaningful contribution looks like beyond writing code. We talked about non-technical roles, sponsored contribution, and how large community-driven projects actually function, along with a few additiona
Agree and Amplify: Funding Open Source as Digital Infrastructure
TL;DR Open source software powers critical digital infrastructure, but funding rarely reaches the people maintaining it. Dries Buytaert’s post on digital sovereignty makes a strong case for changing how governments and organizations invest in open source. Recent sustainability challenges in projects like Tailwind show this isn’t theoretical. If organizations rely on open source, contributing…

Pomanders on Christmas
I learned from a friend about pomanders and decided with the oranges in our stockings today to give it a try with some (fortunately) whole cloves we had in our spice drawer. So far they already smell lovely and will be giving them a try drying out on our fireplace, but if they mold then will try the paper bag trick that Jake mentioned. My family definitely gave me some sidelong glances while I…
Reflections on State of the Word 2025 and the Future of AI in WordPress
There is a moment every year when the lights dim, the livestream timer counts down, and the room settles into that familiar mix of quiet and anticipation. This year, State of the Word left me with a feeling I have not had in a long time. It felt like all the threads of AI work happening across WordPress finally came together. If you have not watched the replay, it is worth it. Before I dig into…
I wasn’t able to stay for Matt Mullenweg’s session at WordCamp Canada, but his recap post sparked two questions I wish I’d asked. His reflections on the future of WordPress, AI, and open publishing raise important questions about what comes next for the open web. In my latest post, I share two questions for Matt on how WordPress can help make “publish once, syndicate everywhere” a reality and how it can help rebuild trust in what’s real online.
WordCamp Canada 2025 conference talk
I’m thrilled to share how the Shipping WordPress Without Shipping Code talk went at WordCamp Canada 2025 (aka “WCEH”; get it WC, eh?). For folks who couldn’t attend, here’s a summary of what we covered, insights from the audience, and next steps you can try yourself. In the talk I walked my own path, from helper to release deputy to AI team lead, all without ever having commit access. Along the…
Future-Proofing for the AI-Native Web
I recently partnered with WordPress VIP on their new executive whitepaper, Future-Proof Your Brand for the AI-Native Web. The rules of content, SEO, and customer engagement are being rewritten. Generative AI is reshaping discovery, pulling reliable traffic into AI-generated summaries, and shifting customer journeys. Enterprises without a plan risk losing visibility just as the AI-native web…

Pong Block: A Fun New WordPress Plugin (and a Nod to Telex)
I’m excited to share something lighthearted and experimental: Pong Block, a new WordPress block plugin available on WordPress.org and GitHub. As the name suggests, it brings a playable version of Pong right into your posts and pages, modeled loosely on PongGame.org and the Wikipedia history of Pong. Try it now!: Pong Block requires JavaScript to play the game. Built with Telex I built Pong…
