Optimal was assembled in Vos by a scientist named Crosswind and is the younger sibling of Galaxia, his earlier creation. They have a twin Spark, as a result of which the sisters could sense each other through distance.
Galaxia and Optimal studied at the Seeker Academy in Vos, but when a rebellion broke out, led by Starscream, they fled, finding street fighting in the city. Crosswind was killed by Ghostfire, the Decepticon interrogator, and they were forced to flee the city. Galaxia stayed behind to cover her sister's escape, as a result of which they split up, and she got to Iacon Optimal alone. There, she was captured by an Autobot patrol, and after being a prisoner of war for some time, she joined Optimus Prime in his fight against the Decepticons as an electronic warfare specialist in the hope of getting to the creator's killer, taking revenge on him and finding her sister.
She was temporarily seconded to Ultra Magnus, and he gradually, despite Optimal's penchant for discipline violations, took a liking to her. She had never been familiar with such irregular feelings and relationships before, but in the end she timidly reciprocated his feelings.
The feelings gradually grew stronger, and they went through the entire war together before the fall of Cybertron. Realizing that the planet has actually been destroyed by war, Optimal nevertheless decides to go in search of his sister, but after a while he crashes on Earth and falls into stasis for 4 million years.
4 million years later, the ship's emergency recovery system, triggered by the battle of the Autobots and Decepticons, comes to life and brings Optimal and her friend Firewalker back to life, and they join the Prime team on Earth.
After a while and a battle, Ultra Magnus arrives to them, and old feelings flare up again. After the war with the Decepticons, they return to Cybertron together, and after a while Optimal makes a new attempt to find his sister and finds her in the Z-12 system on an abandoned planetoid satellite in a deplorable state. She brings her to Cybertron, and she stays to live with her and Ultra Magnus.
