if they’ve been reckless/made bad decisions, Yaz scolds them like unruly children and They Will Listen

Yaz and Kenji are very protective of Darius. no one hurts their little brother. someone made the mistake of bullying Darius after nublar and Kenji punched the bully in the nose (Yaz sent the bully very psychologically disturbing hate mail)

between jwcc and jwct, Kenji arranges a monthly movie night with Yaz over discord and Darius with Kenji irl

they get together once every few months to hang out and catch up, maybe over drinks

they’re down to do weird shit together, mostly just wandering around somewhere they aren’t supposed to be (some rich asshole’s private property or something) and if they dare, bringing a picnic and drinks

after Nublar, Darius and Kenji took Yaz to an abandoned theme park to wander around (she canonically loves theme park related deaths, this would be a dream for her)

their parents made them take Brand with them as the Designated Responsible Adult, so he tagged along. it was a super fun day

Darius’s dad put a $10 bill in an envelope a week or so before he died so he could buy Darius his first alcoholic drink, but Yaz and Kenji wanted to take Darius to get his first beer when he turned 21 (he was very good at not drinking before then) so the three went out and took Darius for his first ever drink

the fuckers up of shit ever. they’re at an Event with annoying people (some kinda sponsor event to do with Yaz’s track or Kenji or something) and at some point Kenji whispers to them “i put a stink bomb in the vents” or “i put laxatives in the punch bowl” and Darius and Yaz have to plan an escape route for when the shit inevitably goes south

they aren’t very physically affectionate with each other, but when they are, it means a lot 🫶

they’ve cuddle piled a few times; order goes: Darius, Yaz, Kenji, from inside spoon to outside

Yaz gets very concerned about Kenji. especially after how he got in season 2, she often starts worrying whenever he’s being reckless. usually it gets to the point Darius notices, and then he helps Yaz calm down

A somewhat continuation of this post. Starting with his home district: District 4:

District 4 (Fishing):

District 4, being a career district, has a lot of victors.

Despite all that, he's worried; he knows his games weren't entertaining enough for the gamemakers, and he himself wasn't a Victor they were enthused about, so he thought they'd set it so he'd be reaped.

It's worse, Kenji gets chosen and Darius finds himself volunteering to protect his brother, however, looking back he knows Kenji was reaped on purpose because they knew him and Darius were close, and none of the other District 4 Victors liked Kenji enough to volunteer for him, so it forced Darius's hand to volunteer so that Kenji couldn't take his place to protect him.

The female tribute from his district is Ronnie, a Tribute Darius is familiar with from his childhood, who was once a fisherwoman turned Victor several years before Darius was old enough to be reaped and forced to watch the games.

Kenji still travels with them to the Capitol to mentor Darius again. Most of the other District 4 Victors assist Ronnie, but avoid Darius because they found his victory disrespectful to their district.

District 1 (Luxury):

The male tribute is Earnest, someone Darius doesn't know well; he's a late 20s guy whom Darius has only seen in passing with other Victors.

Darius can recall Earnest's games were he managed to recruit several tributes from Districts 2 and 4 to do most of his dirty work; he then killed his fellow tributes in their sleep during his watch duty.

He Charismatic, but he's also ruthless.

The female tribute is a woman named Serena, but Darius can't recall her games. She comes off as a typical District 1 tribute, always adorned in luxurious fabrics and jewels.

District 2 (Masonry):

The male tribute is Rio, a large masonry worker who won his games a long time ago. Darius doesn't personally remember it, but he recalls the older members of District 4 saying Rio was known for blunt weapons and beating his competing tributes to death, including killing his own district partner early in the games. He holds the record for most kills during a day 1 bloodbath.

The female tribute's name Darius doesn't hear, but he recognizes her as a Victor known as "The Hander" who won her games by somehow befriending the Capitol made muttans and ordering them to attack her fellow tributes.

District 3 (Technology):

The female tribute is originally a young woman named Gia, whom Darius recognizes as a Victor from the 72nd games. However, an older woman, "Nonna," volunteers to go in her place.

The male tribute is Ben Pinus, Victor of the 69th Hunger Games, though Darius points out he looks far different now, glamorized by the Capitol into having a much larger build and lighter hair.

Darius remembers Ben's games, as Ben was known for creating devices that exploded and caused several dealths and injuries from his games.

Other than that, the Capitol advertises him as charismatic and charming; however, he himself looked horrified when Gia was reaped and even more so when Nonna volunteered.

District 5 (Power):

An older couple named Mitch and Tiff, who were victors who won their games one after the other, and then married.

District 6 (Transportation):

Mateo is the male Tribute, an older gentleman who Darius remembers as having a daughter who cries as soon as he's reaped for the Quarter Quell.

The female tribute is Lana Molina, an angry woman who resorts to cursing out the Capitol once she is reaped again. Darius vaguely recalls people talking about her games in District 4, saying they were surprised she wasn't a Career with how brutally she held her own in the arena.

District 7 (Lumber):

An older man named Vito is the male tribute. Darius notes he looks like a lumberjack and recalls him winning years ago.

The female tribute is an older woman by the Name of Allison Miles, she is far more timid than Vito.

District 8 (Textiles):

Yasmina Fadoula is the female tribute (and the only female victor at the time of the 75th games reaping). Darius remembers watching her games when he was 12. Despite everyone in District 4 claiming she was stupid for getting angry about "how the games worked," and laughing at her crashout, which led her to kill four of the tributes. Darius secretly rooted for her to win because he remembered how scared he was during his first reaping, despite being a career, and often thought that if he were reaped, he'd want someone like her as an ally before he was killed.

The male tribute is Rich, while Darius doesn't recall his games. However, Rich seemed scared to be reaped again.

District 9 (Grain):

The Male tribute is a young man named Zappa

The female tribute is a woman named Pilot.

District 10 (Livestock):

Sammy Gutierrez is the female tribute. Darius remembers her from her games as being one of the kindest people who entered the arena. She is known for mercy-killing her district partner after he was left to bleed out by a career district kid.

Carl is the male tribute, a grumpy, angry man who quickly throws profanities at the Capitol the second he is reaped, almost causing a riot in District 10.

District 11 (Agriculture):

Zayna Mballo is the female tribute. Darius recognizes her as the 14-year-old who won the games before his. She took advantage of her small appearance to hide and attack other tributes from a distance. She is the youngest Victor in the Quarter Quell at 15 years old.

Mo is the male tribute. A senior-aged farmer who appeared to be retired.

District 12 (Coal/Mining):

The male tribute is a gruff-looking man named Delgado

It was revealed that District 12 had no female victor, so the Capitol pulled 2 male victors.

Decided to put this under the cut because it does mention some of the darker themes in The Hunger Games series.

Darius and Yaz are so brave in season 1, it really isn't talked about enough how these two put their lives on the line right away to save people they don't know that well (and with the drama and Yaz being mad at Sammy but still almost dying for her and Darius.)

Like and I bet Darius and Yaz don't even remember Ben freezing during their Toro encounter but I bet Ben remembers it, he remembers becoming more brave after, he remembers almost letting two people who would later become his best friends die because he was too weak to protect them.

His face off against Toro meaning so much to him because he became strong enough to protect his friends after failing them.

The reason we think he’s doing it (in both cc & ct) out of deeper love for Ben/Brooklynn is because the writers like to particularly put the B characters into near-death scenes.

(Ben ‘dying’ at the monorail, Brooklynn getting kidnapped by Wu, bumpy getting chipped by DK, Ben almost dying when trying to free bumpy, Brooklynn being ‘dead’ and undercover in ct, Bumpy teased to be dying in ct s1, Ben getting electrocuted in ct s1, Bumpy being taken by Biosyn, Brooklynn almost dying in 4x05 … there’s probably more.)

Sure, the others have gotten hurt too, but it never lasted more than one episode, ie Sammy’s injury. Yaz went to get the injury cause she’s the fastest and obviously Yasammy ship building; but if Yaz couldn’t have, kenji would have for sure gone instead. (Okay, Yaz was disabled throughout many episodes, though the writers never teased her to be dying or in need of urgent help. Also there was a whole episode of Kenji helping disabled Yaz.)

Making it look like Benji & Kenlynn in a love corner thing at that point, cause kenji always cares the most about rescuing them. But he’d for sure do the same if the other characters were in that near-death situation.

This is hinted in the episode in Senegal when they ‘left’ Yaz alone at night, and Kenji then hugs her first once she’s safe with them.

Like if Darius got stung in s4 instead, we might’ve not gotten a similar heartfelt conversation in the hyperloop simply because they are already close and talk a lot, and Darius doesn’t have the same uncertainties as Ben, but he’d for sure have done the elevator scene to save Darius. If Brooklynn got stung instead, there would be no necessity for Kenji to be with her, cause I’m sure anyone is able to carry Brooklynn; Kenji however is the second strongest physically, so it was sorta necessary for him to stay with Ben.

He also proposed to go alone to the chicken farm, just so Zayna (and the others) won’t be harmed. And we can all agree on that that was not out of potential romance.

The only reason why he didn’t go after Brooklynn to Malta, apart from not completely trusting her, is cause he got at his limit. Which he told Darius earlier in the car ride. Then why would he have played the hero for Ben in s4? Because he was there when it happened. For Brooklynn, he’d needed to travel to Malta and then hope first that she wants to be rescued; there was no certainty, the whole rescue mission could’ve gone totally wrong/been useless. But Ben did need rescuing, needed to quickly get medical help, out of the dinosaur forest, and was very close to death. Big difference.

I’m not saying that romantic feelings can’t develop when someone plays a hero for another person all the time because that one person just loves being tortured like that by the writers. So, yeah, sure, Kenji (and Ben too) might have totally fallen in love during all that heroism action scenes.

General:

they decide to all live together on a ranch/farm in Texas for a few years so they can reconnect

the camp fam don’t want to go back to only seeing each other over video call. they missed each other :(

so during that dinner table at the epilogue, they all talk about their future, and decide they all want to move to Texas. it’s conveniently out of reach from the media that’s been hounding the famous Nublar Six about Biosyn, Sammy can go back to her ranch/farm life, and one big house has enough room for everyone to be comfortable

building/starting the farm is hard work, but with the camp fam all struggling to find actual jobs or something to do with their lives now the Chaos is over, it’s good to have something to focus on

the ranch expands to a ranch/farm because they all realise they like growing fruit and veg, and they can sell that stuff at the farmers market

animals they have: four horses (Smoothie II, Raini, Kausar, and Sarah), Bessie and her calf Missie, three more dairy cows, a mama sheep (Lucinda) and her two lambs (Beatrice and Genevive), three goats (Bill, Sam and Harry (yeah that’s a Mamma Mia reference XD)), a gaggle (yeah that’s what they’re called) of geese, a herd of ducks, lots of chickens, Kenji’s random stray dog Benji (yeah i know i know), and a mysteriously unnamed cat everyone refers to as “chief” (because he’s the chief mouser)

plants they grow are: tomatoes, peppers, carrots, green cabbage, oranges, apples, sweet onions, leeks, mushrooms, turnips, bok choy, green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, strawberries (which they make into jam) (thanks @throneofrayllum and this helpful website for helping me with this cos i had no clue 😭)

they also grow lots of flowers, just for decoration

they sell cows’, goats’, and sheep’s milk, eggs, and wool at the farmers market, but the animals aren’t raised for meat

one day, the camp fam are messing around in the kitchen, blitz up the farm tomatoes and each add some random seasoning, and accidentally create the most delicious sauce ever, so they sell that too

every evening, someone is video calling their parents (Darius and Kenji call their mum on mondays, Yaz calls her mum on saturdays, Ben calls his mum on thursdays, Brooklynn calls her dads every wednesdays (but stops after she has a big fight with them)) and the others occasionally say hi

sometimes the camp fam come across a ranch that treats the animals badly, and they plan a heist to rescue the animals while making it look like they ran away and escaped

the camp fam all go to talk to the animals when they’re upset/can’t talk to the camp fam about it. picture one of them sitting cross legged next to a farm animal chomping on some grass, and just venting their life problems (“i think all my problems started with my father” *cow noises*) (“you know what... i should go talk to them about how that made me feel! you are so right, Lucinda” *sheep chewing grass noises*)

the fresh air and daily physical exercise, all of them going completely off social media, and spending so much time together, all does wonders for their wellbeing, and helps lessen their ptsd/trauma/mental illness symptoms

the hayloft is the Designated Party Area. Sammy put up bunting and Brooklynn installed fairy lights (very carefully so they won’t accidentally catch on fire), and it’s a really pretty area

it’s also where they go if they’ve had a nightmare and want to get some fresh air. it’s surprisingly grounding, as the farm smell calms them down. occasionally, several people go there and it turns into a spontaneous slumber party

every couple/pairing has made out or had sex in the hayloft at least once

the Animal Smell is permanently in their clothes and they’ve all accepted that. even Brooklynn did, eventually. the smell reminds them all of feeling safe and happy with each other

they’re all kinda used to seeing each other in pajamas/not wearing much. not in a weird way; they all genuinely don’t mind. nothing remotely sexual happens between them. they’d all get changed/dressed in the same room. they wander out to breakfast wearing underwear. modesty is a vague suggestion

there’s a designated Water Duty cycle, where one person each day is responsible for filling all the water bowls and troughs. it’s the most efficient way for them to do it, they’ve found

Sammy thinks the other campers are terrible at naming things but that won’t stop them naming the animals. much to her annoyance, their names catch on eventually

they all get attached to the drama between the animals (“Smoothie II tried to jump over that six foot fence again” “i bet he was trying to see Sarah again, the horny bastard”)

sometimes they (mostly Ben and Kenji) even make up their own drama, like the animals are on a poorly-written soap opera

the cats aren’t really anyone’s responsibility specifically, whoever’s up earliest (usually Kenji or Yaz) feeds them, the person on water duty keeps them watered, someone plays with them if they’re not busy, and they curl up on someone’s lap in the evening

they’re in Texas, so it gets pretty sweltering. when it’s hot, and they all need a break from working, Sammy hands everyone water guns. someone gets hold of the hose, and within a minute, everyone is chasing everyone all around the Watering Hole. no one is safe. siblings turn on siblings. lovers turn on lovers. alliances are broken. they’re all soaking wet by the end

they also have a slip and slide, which is refreshing in the summer, but somehow even more chaos than the water guns. since accidentally catapulting Kenji into a pile of manure, they unanimously restricted slip and slide use to the main hill

they often race around the ranch on the horses. usually it’s Ben v Brooklynn and Yaz v Sammy. the others cheer them on like it’s formula one

reporters hound them quite a lot, so they all changed their numbers and email addresses

one reporter somehow found out where they live, and tried to approach them, but they have an electric fence covered in spikes, and let’s just say that reporter didn’t try to do that again

the camp fam all come to feel very safe at the ranch. with the others of the cam fam and all the animals around, they never feel alone

they delegate chores so one person is in charge of a certain thing

grocery shopping is usually Darius and Kenji’s responsibility but sometimes they all come

Smoothie sits in the trolley basket and loves it

the others all use the animals for comfort. sometimes they just need to hug a horse or pet a chicken or sleep in the cow barn for the night and that is Okay

the idea prompts Sammy and Yaz to start a small therapeutic program for Texan kids who take comfort in animals

Smoothie and Bumpy also become emotional support animals for the kids who are maybe a bit scared of dinosaurs

no matter what is going on in their day, they all always try to make it home for dinner so they can chat and have a nice meal

Sammy is the best cook, Yaz second, Darius third, Ben fourth

Kenji enjoys ’helping them’ (sitting on a kitchen stool and talking)

Brooklynn tried to cook once and was banned from ever trying it again

every saturday evening they hold a movie night with snacks and everyone piles onto the sofas (and usually end up asleep there)

Brooklynn can pirate pretty much anything (if only they could agree on a movie to watch)

Yaz can’t run anymore due to her chronic ankle pain/instability but likes going for a solo walk around the ranch first thing every morning

Kenji likes a late evening walk around the ranch, usually with Ben or Sammy if Ben isn’t well enough. he lowkey does not like to be alone

sometimes Kenji also goes out for walks in the morning, and one time he finds Yaz having fallen over (she rolled her ankle badly because she forgot her brace and cane/was being stubborn and decided she didn’t need them) and he piggybacks her back to the ranch

Darius really vibes with the chickens. he loves feeding them. he loves petting them. he nicknames them all. Brooklynn lovingly teases him for it.

Kenji uses the cows/livestock as therapists. if he’s upset, off he goes to the fields to find the nearest cow that will listen. he’s not above eating grass with them (tried it once and disliked the ’sour taste’ (pesticides))

Sammy has a massive truck which is the only vehicle that can transport all six of them and Ben’s wheelchair in one trip, and journeys in it are the most chaotic thing ever. the gps is broken and there’s not enough signal half the time and the only ones who can competently read a paper map are Darius and Brooklynn. the other four are jammed in the back, usually with Yaz on Sammy’s lap. there is always an argument over who gets the aux cord.

Brooklynn steals everyone’s clothes. good luck to everyone else getting their stuff back

any items of clothing that are plain (e.g. black or white tops, jeans) are generally considered free real estate as long as it fits them

the living room sofa has a giant blanket that, with a lot of effort (and sitting on other peoples’ laps) can fit everyone under it

Kenji and Yaz bicker a lot but they love each other and it’s never that serious

to fuel Ben’s pyromania /nsrs they have a bonfire with marshmallows and s’mores once a month

the shower has a shower chair (mostly for Ben for his injury, and Yaz since standing too long can be painful for her ankle) and grab rails, but they’re pretty useful for everyone, especially if they’re sick

the group have successfully organised one (1) group holiday, where they all went to Italy for a week to see Gia and Nonna again, and another week in a holiday resort on a gorgeous Mediterranean island somewhere

they have a system where each person hangs a glowstick on their bedroom door handle if they are okay with being woken up that night for comforting someone who has a nightmare

Kenji wanders around shirtless all the time. Yaz throws pillows at him and yells at him to at least put a vest on and Kenji’s like, “it’s July in Texas, Yaz, I think I might be slowly cooking alive”

in retaliation Yaz wanders around without a shirt on (she has to stop when Sammy stares at her too long, walks into a door, and gets a nosebleed)

everyone has probably seen each other naked at least once. mostly they don’t really care. Brooklynn minds the least, Ben minds the most

*cue modern family-esque scene where the others prepare a breakfast in bed for Sammy on her birthday and they walk into Sammy’s bedroom where her and Yaz are doing it and the others drop the tray and run and start screaming*

if one couple wants to bang, they text everyone else with the boom emoji and everyone else gets out of the house (the walls of the ranch are paper thin)

Darius:

adjusts to ranch/farm life the second fastest out of him, Ben, Brooklynn and Kenji. he likes the routine of going out every day to do the same thing for an hour #autism. plus he likes animals, especially the birds

loves the chickens. absolutely adores them. they are evolutionary descendants of the dinosaurs after all! plus he loves to stroke their soft little feathers :(

he goes out to feed them every morning, clean out their coop, refill their water bowl, and hang out with them

sometimes they sit on his lap. it’s not uncommon for him to be sitting and working or something, and a chicken to be perched on his legs and pecking at his trousers

he names them all variations on famous people names but with ’hen’ in them. the puns are so bad. Elvis Hensley. Henna Ortega. Whitney Henston. Hennifer Lawrence

Hennifer Lawrence went missing once and he was panicking hard. he made everyone look for her (this is totally a modern family reference btw)

tries riding a horse but the horse yeets him off first try and he sprains his wrist

sticks to the birds from then on

loves the ducks. he often sits leaning against a tree by the duck pond to do his work

helps Brooklynn with the geese. they often sit together with a goose on each of the laps, and Darius listens to Brooklynn quietly singing to them. literally platonic Haymitch x Lenore from sunrise on the reaping if you even care /lh

he’s not very good at cooking, but he helps out a lot in the kitchen. he was Simone’s little kitchen helper as a kid. he also loves loading and unloading the dishwasher for some reason so he does that

he and Kenji go grocery shopping together. it’s their thing

there was a Minor Incident where the camp fam were getting a little bit stoned, there was a coyote on the farm, and he slowly went towards it like some kind of animal charmer and yelled “IT’S MY DAD YOU GUYS!” and it attacks him (this is a never have i ever reference lol)

Brooklynn:

slowest to adjust to ranch/farm life (she’s also coping with being officially Alive, rekindling her relationships with her dads and the camp fam, and her added trauma from the whole Soyona thing) but she gets there. it’s important to her that she shows how much she wants to be around the camp fam and is there for them (especially Sammy)

handles all the repairs and tractors

she has tried to interact with the horses/cows once or twice and freaked out because she does Not know how animals work, and Sammy helps her out

randomly gets attached to the goats though. she likes their funky little eyes and their weird little faces /t and feeding them grass out of her palm

also the shenanigans the goats get into make her laugh so hard. they get stuck trying to chew the grass on the outside of the fence when there is perfectly good grass in their pen and Brooklynn has to sit down from laughing too hard

once, she was chatting with one of the goats who was lying down, and she was kinda sprawled on the grass, Darius saw her and immediately panicked that she’d hurt herself, and started yelling for her, but she was like, “Darius, i was just talking to the goats, don’t worry” (he worried)

names the goats Bill, Sam and Harry

as mentioned, loves the geese. she sings to them, pets their feathers, lets them sit on her lap. she names them after the hunger games characters. her favourite goose is Lenore :(

she helps a lot with the business side of things, and making sure the Watering Hole is getting good deals, keeping an eye out for good business opportunities, etc etc.

discussing business with Sammy over a cup of cocoa in the evenings helps her regain Sammy’s trust and brings them a lot closer

she struggles a bit to work out how to ride a horse one handed but manages and actually gets pretty good at it. her favourite horse is Sarah

washes the cars for everyone

also deals with all the tech stuff in the house (e.g. if the tv is broken, she’ll fix it)

also fixes the cars if they’re broken (Darius enjoys watching her with oil smudged on her cheeks and arms talking about some tech mumbo jumbo)

Yaz:

very enthusiastic about the ranch/farm life. thought she might not be at first, but she truly and genuinely loves it!

aside from Sammy she probably does the most of the ranch/farm work

refocusing her mind on something, especially something repetitive like planting saplings and seeds, or something physical like riding horses, is extremely good for her ptsd and anxiety symptoms

the physical activity also really helps her physical and mental health, she loves the amount of physical work she gets to do

she takes care of the horses, especially the horses that have a temperament

her favourite horse is Kausar

the only one out of the camp fam who could ever come close to beating Sammy in a horse riding race

her and Sammy often ride around the ranch together, just them two. there’s a hill at the top of the ranch, and they often ride up there to watch the sunset

grows a soft spot for the abandoned strays Sammy finds

pretty good cook, and cooks when Sammy or Ben don’t want to

does all the ’dry’ chores if that makes sense

enjoys hoovering (vacuuming) while listening to a psych podcast or something

(when Kenji is bugging her she turns on the hoover and makes it suck his hair into it so it comes out all weird and spiky and everyone laughs at him)

does the laundry for everyone

everyone also begs her to file their taxes because she’s the only one somewhat good at maths

Sammy:

obvs the mastermind behind it. she knows what needs to be done and she’s good at matching up whose good at something with who needs to be doing what

oversees everything, fills in the holes that need filling on a certain day, and does everything else i haven’t mentioned (idk shit about running a ranch/farm, i imagine it’s much harder than i think)

mostly takes care of the cows

takes care of the horses with Yaz and Kenji (her fave is Raini)

is always finding stray animals that just join the Watering Hole. she usually identifies the cruel/neglectful ranches because she knows exactly what the animals need

the Housewife Ever. loves cooking for everyone (not pie though, she’s so sick of pie), and taking care of the camp fam

in turn though they all take care of her, and one way they take care of her is through taking on lots of the Watering Hole responsibilities so it’s not just Sammy doing all the hard work, and she can relax knowing the Watering Hole is in good hands

Sammy has a required hour where everyone has to go outside and enjoy the fresh air, no matter the weather (unless it’s literally a health hazard to be outdoors). she’s dragged them out into the rain before (they ended up loving it but Kenji would not stop whining for the first ten minutes) and she will do so again

the first time they all started showing genuine interest in being part of the Watering Hole’s actual responsibilities and asking how they can help, she cried with joy that night in the barn

She isn’t really religious but still goes to church occasionally on sunday and puts Yaz in charge of the ranch

she lowkey loves caring for the others. she’ll make tupperwares of dinner leftovers for everyone for their lunch the next day with colour-coded tupperware lids and a smiley face drawn in marker

she does all the garden chores: she takes the trash out, mows the lawn, trims the hedges, and all the other garden work with Brooklynn and Ben’s help

she usually chops wood. the others can do that as well, Yaz just enjoys watching Sammy chopping down branches in a tank top

Kenji:

doesn’t have a specific animal he’s overly attached to, until Sammy brings home a mutt she found lying in the street somewhere and Kenji grows so attached. he walks him every day, pets him, sneaks him food under the table. he got the dog he always wanted :(

too scared to try riding a horse. he sat on Smoothie II while Sammy led the horse around the paddock and was clinging on for dear life. refuses to try again

however he likes petting the horses and brushing them down and stuff. often helps out Sammy and Yaz with the horses in the barn, and the three grow pretty close from hanging out with the horses in the barn

he mostly takes care of Smoothie II but loves all the others as well

the first time an animal at the Watering Hole died, Kenji cried so much (they all did but especially Kenji. loss still hits him hard)

at first he had no clue what he should do in terms of chore related responsibilities, since everyone seemed to have their designated chores

a good spotify experience is very important to Kenji, so he bought the group premium deal for everyone

but he is very good at drifting around and keeping the house tidy. everything that’s left out Kenji puts away. he ends up being the finishing polish on the well-oiled machine of their house

he’s also down to take on anything that needs doing. he’s versatile. a jack of all trades

Kenji loves grocery shopping with Darius so much. he sits in the shopping cart and Darius pushes him. his face is just like :| and kenji is just like :3

Ben:

he gets adjusted to ranch/farm life the fastest out of him, Darius, Kenji and Brooklynn. he’s surprisingly adjustable, even though it’s difficult getting used to his new limitations

loves driving a tractor so much

when Sammy has any organic waste that can’t be composted and needs burning, she lets Ben burn it (my pyromaniac child)

also loves the sheep. he names them Lucinda, Beatrice and Genevive. his girls deserve the fanciest of names

once he’s more physically able, he’s the third best at riding after Yaz and Sammy, mostly from riding Bumpy all the time (but riding Bumpy is very different to riding a horse lol)

helps Sammy with the gardening work when she needs it

washes all the windows and generally handles a lot of the house chores

he helps prep the feed, groom the animals, and he cleans the tack, since that’s all he can physically do

can also cook pretty well

it’s... not easy being together when they aren’t focused on running for their lives. there’s still a lot of unresolved stuff between the four of them especially. Sammy and Yaz have to properly Talk, Kenji and Brooklynn still need to get over their breakup, Sammy and Brooklynn barely resolved things between them... it’s a mess

Yaz is sensitive to the situation ofc, but a little part of her stares at the group dynamics with morbid fascination. house of people full of messy feelings... this would make a great research project for her!

unfortunately though she can’t go back to her studies, because the entire island got shut down. and she’s still very deep in her ptsd, even though she’s been suppressing it for all of chaos theory. now the adrenaline is gone, it kinda hits her in the face

the others are all doing pretty terribly too

they’ve been surviving on raw adrenaline for about two months, so all the illnesses their immune system suppressed completely smack them in the face. the first two weeks back are spent shivering and coughing as they all try to fight the cocktail of sicknesses their body hasn’t dealt with

they’re all grieving Ben (even though they know he’s not dead) and they all take it pretty hard in different ways:

Kenji blames himself for not being able to save him quick enough, and he’s so shaken from going through all of it

he has occasional episodes where he just suddenly starts crying and can’t make himself stop. they’re sitting around the dinner table eating, and Kenji bursts into tears for no reason. he’s folding laundry or washing dishes and suddenly he’s crying. it’s jarring and he hates it

he gets pretty frequent panic attacks

he also gets nightmares the worst, and it terrifies him because he rarely got nightmares before chaos theory, and they were never as terrifying as reliving Ben bleeding to death in Kenji’s arms

Yaz came so close to losing her best friend again, and it’s ripping her apart. she sometimes gets pretty dissociated, flashing back to the horrible moments

Sammy already has such a hard time dealing with loss and abandonment, but she manages to take the trauma the best this time. she has Yaz by her side, and that helps a lot, even if things are difficult between them

she does still have occasional hallucinations of watching Ben bleeding to death, and she sometimes doesn’t know it’s a hallucination, which really scares her. she calls on Yaz, and sometimes Brooklynn or Kenji to help reality check her

Brooklynn hardcore hates herself. not just because of Ben, but everything else that happened. she thinks it’s all her fault, and she apologises to everyone more times than she can count. sometimes the apologies are slow, measured confessions that she’ll do anything she can to make it right between her and the rest of the camp fam. sometimes the apologies are made up of her sobbing brokenly and begging them to forgive her

she has a few times where she wanders around the woods with a bug out bag on her back, sincerely believing the camp fam would be better off without her. she never plans on leaving for long, but she’s convinced they don’t want her around, and any break she can give them is good and they must be so relieved to have her gone (all lies btw. they worry every time it happens). as much as it kills her to put them through ‘losing’ her again, she can’t shake the thought that they want someone back who doesn’t exist anymore and that they must all hate her because Ben only got injured because of her

the first time, Kenji found her and talked her out of it, promising he doesn’t hate her for it. that some things just happen out of their control. they’re both crying by the end, and he lifts her into his arms and carries her out of the woods, making sure she gets home and into bed safely (it’s the first time he’s called the cabin ‘home’)

the second time, Sammy found her and verbally slapped her shit back into place /loving, reminding her nothing will be fixed by running from her problems. and that they really do want her back in their lives

the third time, Yaz found her and also talked her out of it. telling her running away from your problems solves nothing. while they were out there, she got a call from Kenji that Ben and Darius were coming home soon — and Brooklynn practically sprinted out of the woods. that was the last time Brooklynn seriously thought about leaving the camp fam

Sammy and Yaz talk a lot. many nights are spent out on the porch having long, hard conversations about their relationship, and things they both need to fix. Sammy knows she needs to treat Yaz less like a child, and Yaz knows she needs to stay with the camp fam, especially Sammy, so she doesn’t feel abandoned ever again

Sammy thinks about getting back in contact with her parents, and eventually decides to reach out. Yaz, Kenji and Brooklynn all don’t like this (Kenji especially, cos he knows what actually happened between them), and think Sammy’s parents should be the ones reaching out to their daughter since they were the ones who messed up. but they trust Sammy to make her own choices

(Kenji doesn’t tell Yaz and Brooklynn what actually happened, btw. that’s Sammy’s business to tell and he’s very firm on that)

despite all this pain and heartbreak... they enjoy being together

the days are often long and difficult, and they almost always end up falling asleep in each other’s arms

the time Sammy saw Brooklynn crying on the sofa was when she first started to really forgive her. seeing how utterly broken Brooklynn was by everything that happened, and how horrible she felt over it, helped Sammy see how sorry she was and how much she wanted things to be better between them all

Sammy also sees how desperately Brooklynn needs comfort. she acts all fine during the day but like. it’s bad. Someone Hug This Poor Sad Trembling Thing Right Now

Sammy and Brooklynn have a lot of difficult conversations. it usually ends with them sobbing because there’s so much hurt between them, and clinging to each other because they still love each other. it’s cathartic and exhausting but they need it

a few days after they move in, Kenji and Sammy go on a two-day road trip to get his trailer from Colorado

while they’re there, they go to Brooklynn’s old apartment to pick up her cash supply

the four are torn on what to do with it. Kenji doesn’t want his dad’s dirty money, Sammy thinks they should donate it to charity, and Brooklynn wants to keep some of it so the camp fam have some kind of contingency. they end up deciding not to decide until Ben and Darius come back so they can decide as a group

Kenji volunteers to sleep in the trailer, but nearly always ends up sleeping on the sofa or on the floor next to someone. the trailer has too many bad memories attached and he cannot stomach being alone anymore :(

Yaz and Sammy take the biggest bedroom upstairs, and Brooklynn takes the guest room. she really doesn’t think she deserves even that much, and goes to sleep on the sofa, often ending up snuggling with Kenji (platonically. they’re not in a relationship anymore)

Brooklynn and Kenji cannot cook for shit. Yaz can feed herself to a vaguely acceptable standard, and Sammy knows several home-cooking comfort food recipes, but they all have to figure out how to keep four adults fed and healthy with nutritious food. cue several burnt dishes and a week of stomaching stuff that tastes absolutely terrible

Brooklylynn takes it upon herself to teach herself how to cook, and surprises the other three with pasta one night (it’s not great but it’s not terrible either). she insists it’s the least she can do for them, and every few nights, she offers to cook dinner

they do a few game nights. Kenji knew there were board games in a cupboard, but it was Yaz who suggested it. they’d been having a bad day, and they’re all feeling pretty down, when Yaz slaps several cardboard boxes on the coffee table and says “game night!” none of them want to do it, but Yaz insists, and Sammy does it for Yaz’s sake, Kenji does it for Sammy’s sake, and Brooklynn is willing to do anything for her friends. it starts off a little bit awkward, but it gets easier and easier, and they’re laughing by the end of the night

when they find out Ben is going to be more significantly disabled than they thought, and especially in the long term, Yaz and Brooklynn (who are both physically disabled, and Yaz has a mobility disability) drill Sammy and Kenji on disability etiquette. Sammy knew most of it from Yaz, but Kenji especially benefits from having the heads up since he’s really not very knowledgeable about disability pride/culture. he’s working on it and does his own research

Yaz and Brooklynn also are the ones who adjust the cabin to make it accessible for Ben

Sammy and Kenji also tend to think of Ben’s disability as an “injury” and something he’ll “recover” from, and Yaz and Brooklynn have to get it through the others’ heads that “No He Is Very Much Gonna Be Disabled To Some Degree From This For The Rest Of His Life”

Brooklynn really didn’t want to have her turquoise hair anymore, so a few nights after they get to the cabin, she impulsively buzzes it all off so it’s about 1.5cm (0.6 inches) short. no prior notice, no warning, she shows up to breakfast one morning with all her hair gone and Sammy shrieks in surprise. Yaz is shocked for 0.5 seconds before going “nice hair, B.” Kenji stays out of it but tells her she looks good

they video call Darius most days. their morning is Italy’s evening (they’re 9 hours ahead), so they video call him when they wake up (9am), which is when Darius gets off work (6pm)

most of their time is taken up by dealing with their Biosyn case admin and paperwork, but they find time for themselves too

the four of them often go on lots of walks through the woods; Kenji and Yaz especially go out pretty often to get some fresh air since it helps their mental health

Yaz attempts to get them to therapy, and they begrudgingly look into several therapists before they find a clinic about an hour away they all go to. Sammy is the most willing to go, Kenji is the least (he knows he needs it but he really doesn’t want to open up about his feelings). but they all support each other, and go to a bakery after every session and eat sweet treats in the car

Yaz, Sammy and Brooklynn ofc spend a week building Ben’s ramp. that really helps them trust each other and work with each other more

the evening/night before Darius and Ben get back, it’s Mission Welcome Home Banners. they’re crowded round the dinner table like kids doing a craft project, hands covered in glitter, peeling glue off their arms. Kenji takes Darius’s banner to the airport when he picks him up; the others hang Ben’s banner up

The twins are Ben and Kenji's (alt. Benjia's) kids. Adopted at the age of two by them. They're my favs kiddos to draw i hope y'all love them <3 Their official birthday is April 9th

Xi is quiet, patient and observant, a sensitive kid. in contrast; Katie is loud, expressive, always moving and curious.

His love language is quality time. even just sitting next to each other quietly, reading next to him, etc. very selective with physical touch, it's preferable that he initiates it most of the time. Katie's love language is words of affirmation. thrives on encouragement, compliments, and playful banter that give her energy. She's big on physical touch too, impulsive hugs, cheek pinches (mostly for xi and ellie), holding julieta’s arm when they're walking. she loves LOUD

Xi clings to Kenji the most out of his dads. Kenji always knows when Xi needs Quiet Time and just stays close in that quiet space he prefers. And always finds a way to bring his son out of his shell when he feels like he needs it.

Katie feels closer to Ben emotionally, they both love really big and are very expressive; He helps her when her feelings start racing ahead of her thoughts. Katie inherited The Fanny Pack he had on Nublar, was a gift she got after her first soccer game

Darius:

Not a romantic guy, so doesn't really celebrate Valentine's Day, but he and Brand have a tradition where they take their mom out for Valentine's Day since their dad was always on top of Valentine's Day.

Their dad was a ROMANTIC. He always took their mom somewhere nice for Valentine's, and when he passed, Brand kept up the tradition because their mom worked so hard after their dad's death that she deserved getting a nice night out.

After Nublar, Darius helps Brand plan their mother-son Valentine dates. Darius gets dressed up and everything.

One year, Brand lets Darius plan where they go, and he picks going to the Kimball Natural History Museum. Brand chuckles at first because, of course, Darius would choose somewhere with dinosaurs, but the real reason Darius picks it is because that was where his mom and dad had one of their first dates so they get to walk through the exhibits with their mom reminiscing all the best times with their father.

The dinner consists of Brand, his boyfriend, Kenji, Darius, and sometimes Brooklynn.

Sometimes, he and Brooklynn will hang out while Brand drives their mom home. Sometimes they go to the pier and get ice cream since one of their favorite spots offers half-off ice cream to couples.

Darius really leans into the stereotypical hetero romance; he always makes a joke of going up to the counter and ordering for "my lady friend."

Buys his mom flowers like his dad used to.

Does "Bro-entines" with Ben and Kenji (Kenji created this tradition in response to Galentines, it's literally Galentine's but the boys version)

Is the one who usually calls Yaz or Sammy to come pick them up when their boys' adventures go wrong.

Remembers what kind of candy everyone likes and gifts them some (Platonic Valentine's gifts for the win)

Doesn't really care for all the commercialized romance stuff, but will go with Brand to shop for Brand's boyfriend.

While he's not a romantic, he does like watching his friends get excited to spend time with their loved ones and is always supportive.

He's been on long phone calls with Yaz while she makes plans for her and Sammy, or hangs out with Brand a bunch while Brand plans stuff with his boyfriend, or sometimes even helps Ben set stuff up for Gia if she's coming over.

Kenji:

As a kid, his dad would take his mom on really lavish dates, Kenji spent most of those days with a nanny while his parents went out.

His mom would always get him chocolate or another special treat. As Kenji got older, his mom would insist he come with them to dinner because she wanted both her Valentines there.

Eventually, Kenji's dad got too busy to join them, so Valentine's dinners became just Kenji and his mom. Dinners eventually turned into going out for dessert because his mom slowly fell into a depression as his dad spent less and less time with them.

Kenji always tried to cheer her up with flowers and would dress extra nice for their mother-son dates.

After she passed, they didn't do anything for Valentine's, sometimes his dad would have a date, but Kenji always refused to go.

Really bad at planning Valentine's dates when he and Brooklynn were together. The first Valentine's they're together he tells her about how Valentine's Day was with his parents and Brooklynn tells him they don't have to do fancy restaurants, they can do something else together. This takes a lot of stress off Kenji.

Still tries to do something romantic but forgets to make reservations until the last minute, then scrambles.

Always bought those super oversized teddy bears as an apology and would cook them dinner himself.

Yaz teased him constantly about it, but Brooklynn insisted that his cooking dinner was still sweet (and she's a sucker for a bit teddy bear)

Started a "Bro-entine's" tradition with Ben and Darius. Every February 15th, the boys do something fun (and usually dangerous that ends with the girls being called to go pick them up from whatever bad idea they got themselves into.)

For platonic gifts for the other N6 members, he gets really unhinged but useful things that remind him of everyone.

Ben:

His parents did date nights for Valentine's, but they were usually just dinner, then home, so the holiday wasn't super special to Ben, besides having to give out Valentine's at school (germaphobe Ben low-key hated this)

All the Valentine's cards... all the germs from other kids.

He was happy to move up to middle school, where you don't have to give everyone in your class Valentine's, so there are fewer germs.

After Nublar, he'd get a lot of Valentine's from other students. Especially the girls who took notice of him due to his newfound confidence after Nublar.

He didn't get the gross-out feeling anymore, but he never really cared for getting gifts or cards from strangers on Valentine's Day.

Him and Gia don't normally spend Valentine's day together because it's not a big enough holiday to justify them getting a plane ticket to see each other. They will do Valentine-esque dates when they can be together.

Because of that, Ben's not a huge Valentine's Day guy, he does like spending time with the guys when Gia can't be there, usually they end up doing something fun.

They make gluten-free pasta together and eat it out of mugs like they did in college.

They get way into mug recipes in honor of their mug pasta date in college, Ben makes little mug cakes, and everything while they watch movies.

They're not really into going out to restaurants all the time, once in a while, but they like to have cozy inside dates.

When he can't be with Gia, he usually spends it on a virtual date, but they don't always do that because the wifi can be spotty in Ben's dorm. It gets worse when he's living in Darius's cabin.

Sometimes Ben and Kenji will hang out and prep for Bro-entines together while Darius does dinner with his mom.

One time, he planned a huge Valentine's dinner for Gia at a fancy Italian restaurant, but Gia's flight got delayed, so he took Kenji instead. Since Kenji loves Italian food, it turned into a bro-date.

When the boys stay in Darius's cabin, they do a camping trip to the backyard when Darius gets back from dinner with his mom.

Ben and Kenji rig up a projector so they can watch movies outside.

Yasmina:

Puts every single man to shame. This woman plans Valentine's reservations over a month ahead of time to make sure Sammy gets to have a nice date night.

She and Sammy take turns planning date nights for Valentine's. Whoever's turn it is to make dinner reservations, the other makes breakfast.

An actual lovestruck dork on Valentine's Day. Brooklynn taunts her relentlessly for days leading up because she gushes about all the things she has planned for Sammy, and Brooklynn teases her double.

Despite the teasing, Brooklynn is her partner in crime, often helping her come up with fun things to surprise Sammy with.

Loves seeing Sammy all dressed up, Sammy doesn't get to wear dresses that often, and Yaz becomes a lovestruck idiot whenever they do get the chance to dress up.

Even if it's Sammy's year to plan the date, Yaz always surprises her with flowers, chocolates, and an additional gift.

Yaz gets really into making homemade chocolates one year. She made Sammy custom Mexican Hot Chocolate Truffles. Sammy requests them on her birthday as well because they're insanely good.

She'll do handmade chocolates for the rest of the N6 for their care packages.

If it's her turn to make breakfast, she'll bring it to Sammy in bed. So Sammy gets to wake up, greeted by fresh orange juice, her favorite coffee, chocolate chip pancakes, fresh fruit, and Yaz bringing to her in those short sleep shorts that drive her crazy. (This may end up in the wood tray, almost breaking at least once when it gets knocked off the bed for unrelated reasons.)

She also gets up extra early to do all the morning ranch chores so Sammy can enjoy breakfast in bed without having to rush to feed Bessie or any of the other animals.

Even in her years when she's not making breakfast, she tries to sneak out of bed to do the chores before Sammy gets up. If Sammy catches her, she's forced to snuggle until Sammy has to get up to make breakfast, and they do farm chores together.

Her mom thinks this is hilarious, because they never made a big deal of the holiday, especially after Yaz's father passed when she was young, but watching her get all dorky about it reminds her mom of her father.

Her mom loves getting phone calls afterword were Yaz is gushing over how amazing the date went. Her mom just loves hearing how happy Yaz and Sammy are.

Sammy:

Makes Valentine care packages for the rest of the N6

Does a lot of baking before Valentine's for the care packages, they're packed with heart-shaped cookies, cupcakes, little tricknets, and more.

Is a sucker for stuffed animals. Yaz used to get her a small one for Valentine's every year. She made a patchwork cow plush to look like Bessie one year, and it's Sammy's favorite.

Loves when she gets to wake up to Yaz bringing her breakfast in bed, it's her favorite way to wake up, especially when she can convince Yaz to come back to bed for another hour or two.

She also loves making breakfast and getting to wake her sleepy girlfriend in the morning.

Makes animal-friendly treats for the critters, and she and Yaz hand out the critters' treats during morning chores after breakfast.

Used to feel a bit self-conscious about dressing up or going to nicer restaurants because she wasn't always confident with how she looked in a dress. Yaz always assures her she's beautiful.

If she's planning their dinner date, she'll sometimes treat Yaz to a fancy picnic date or a restaurant that has outside seating, because she knows her girlfriend has an unusual attachment to food and the outside.

Loves planning cozy dates, making hot cocoa, and snuggling in front of a movie with more blankets than anyone needs.

Sammy and Yaz sometimes cook together on Valentine's that they don't go out. Sammy loves having Yaz in the kitchen with her.

She thinks Yaz just looks so much sexier and more attractive in an apron, making dinner for her.

Was sick on Valentine's Day one year and was really upset about it. It was one of Yaz's years to plan dinner too, and she felt so bad about being sick.

100% pouted all morning when Yaz had to get up to make breakfast and take care of the animals alone because of a stupid cold (it was the flu).

Though it was nice to have Yaz act as her nurse, Sammy felt awful about having to miss the date Yaz had planned.

Yaz was a good sport about it; she made Sammy soup and tea. And made sure Sammy got extra snuggles so she'd feel less guilty about missing their date.

They made the most of it, watching movies and just relaxing. Sammy felt better the day after, and they rescheduled their Valentine plans.

... then Yaz got sick, and Sammy got to be her nurse while they rescheduled their date a second time.

Brooklynn:

Certified Date Assistant. She is on call to help with date planning.

Teases Yaz constantly while she's planning her and Sammy's dates, has a whip noise cued on her phone to add sound effects to her teasing.

Teases Ben almost as much as she does Yaz.

The year Gia's flight was canceled, Brooklynn had been in Italy visiting Bumpy and co, so they went out to dinner, and Brooklynn still teases Ben about the year she took Gia out for Valentine's instead.

Is much nicer when helping Sammy plan her dates.

Usually does a Galentine's with Yasammy and Gia the day before, sometimes they do the same day as the Boys if it falls on a weekend, and they can make a weekend-long trip out of it.

Loves spending Valentine's with the Bowmans. She really loves getting to spend time with Mrs. Bowman.
