I absolutely adore vinyl records... I would even go as far to say that it’s an obsession of mine. My main goal for this final project was to make it personal. In terms of my own artistic expression, I really like to grow off of things I enjoy and music in particular is one of the mediums I like to grow off of. This is very simple, I know, but I really love the sanctification there is about putting a needle on a record. When sound pours out, it feel like you’ve accomplished something greater than just pressing play.

For my video I kept trying many different things... Nothing seemed to stick to my liking. Eventually while listening to music I decided to try and figure out how to piece clips together to fit with the music. Going along with the theme of “vanishing and becoming” I figured transformations in pop culture - specifically cartoons would be a great way to simulate this theme. After listening to some music I found a song that had what I would consider violent/mysterious sounds mixed together with a rather cute/upbeat sound by one of my favorite musicians, SOPHIE. For the darker parts of the song I wanted to include rather gruesome and unpleasing transformations to be included and for the upbeat part of the song, I thought immediately to “magical girl” transformations in anime and digievolution in Digimon. The result: my video.

For this project I decided to take one of my favorite parts of the second Pokemon movie, and gif a big part of it. I took The Dance of the Bellossom and decided to make gifs of the little dance the bellossoms do toward the beginning of the bit. I decided to take some parts out of their dance because they wouldn’t fit into ten gifs for the set. Overall making gifs is extremely easy and addictive to me. I’ve made gifs previously so a lot of making these gifs is a second nature to me however that was a few years ago and some things have changed. Thankfully, it is not as difficult to make gifs that work properly on Tumblr like it previously was with the 1MB gif limit or the 500px gif limit also. I’m glad how my gifs turned out, but I wish I would’ve kept a better consistency because the sizes and dither are kinda all over the place.
